Kundapur: Modern bus stop at Goliangadi a model to district

Kundapur, Oct 20: A modern bus stop that will put the government bus stops to shame has come up in Goliangadi here. The bus stop is neither built by any businessman nor the government. It is the result of selfless service of Karuna Belaku, a non-profit trust. The bus stop constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 lac will be inaugurated on Sunday, October 20 by the gram panchayat.

The reason for naming it as a model bus stop is the material used in the construction such as the tiles laid to the ground, the granite used for the seats, the non-corrosive stainless steel railings and the iron roof. All these appear to be of high quality.

When the government constructs bus stops where even standing is difficult, this bus stop provides facilities that are beyond expectations. There are two tube lights for passengers' convenience at nights. There are two plug points to charge laptops. Multi-pin chargers are arranged to charge mobiles. Drinking water facility will also be made available with the assistance from the panchayat, according to Belve Vasanth Kumar Shetty, head of the trust.

About Karuna Belaku

Bangalore resident Vasanth Kumar Shetty has been involved in social service for the last five years under the guidance of Bangalore resident Anagalli Karunakar Hegde. Financial assistance to economically weak girls while getting married, wheel chair for the physically challenged, tailoring machines for self-employment, and financial assistance to build houses for the weaker section of people are some of the programmes undertaken by the trust. "Building a toilet or a bus stop for the people will be more pleasing to God than building ten temples," they say.

Congratulations to the people of Goliangadi, beautiful bus-stand.
Please see to it that the long seating is not misused by sleeping on them. It is better to make many small chairs with gaps so that they are not misused.

I have seen so many beautiful bus shelters in Udupi & D.k. Districts.
Construction is an easy task. Please maintain the cleanliness regularly. Then only it will be useful for the travellers. Otherwise a safe place for beggers & drunkers to sleep.

It is the citizens who build this nation. It is not political parties nor self interested associations.

We are really proud about the great contribution of Karuna Belaku, a non-profit trust in building the model bus stop at Goliangadi.

I want to extend by thanks and best wishes to "Karuna Belaku" organization and Belve Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Head of the Trust and AK Hegde.

It is such a respite during hot summer months and a roof over one's head during raining season when waiting for a bus.
People in and around should use it properly and be responsible to keep the bus-stop and surroundings clean.
Residents also should take responsibilities to oversee that no one uses it as their place of stay and make the Panchayat to vacate such squatters immediately.

Actually there are people or organizations who would come forward for such public welfare projects - but maintaining those projects after completion is the biggest problem.

Building a toilet or a bus stop for the people will be more pleasing to god than building ten temples. Muthinanthaha Maathu. The question is will the people realise the pains taken by Vasanth Kumar Shetty It is constructed for the welfare of the public and it is the responsibility of the public to maintain it. Soon it will be a place of litter, people spitting with paan beeda chew, cows, dogs making it as a shelter, beggers, drunkers making it a place of rest, during communal riots targetting it as place of destruction blah, blah. All this should be avoided.Only then we can boast of our developments rather than blaming the ruling government.
The responsibility lies in each one of us. let us cooperate to build a model district by encouraging the ones who shed their sweat for it.
