Bangalore: Health minister U T Khadar raids gutka shops

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 20: Cracking down on shops that still sell gutka despite the ban, health minister U T Khadar on Saturday October 19 conducted a raid and directed health officers to take strict action against such shops.

The government had banned the sale and consumption of gutka sometime ago. However, despite the ban, some of the shops still carry posters of gutka products and sell them.

Khadar carried out the surprise raid after flagging off an awareness campaign on the bad effects of gutka and smoking at police commissioner's office.

During the raid, the minister personally took off the posters of gutka products in the shops and replaced them with posters creating awareness of the bad effects of gutka.

Dear Sir, Thank you for the initiative. In the same way please look in to the menace of smuggled cigarettes being sold through the same PAN shops which is a bigger danger to the society since the windfall gains made out of the duty evaded smuggled cigarettes are the main source of terror funding in India. There are many organizations like FICCI - CASCADE which have raised concerns but no action taken till date.
Please start with Bangalore and clear this menace.

Why the Health Minister concerned about Gutka only. When ban on smoking is there why it is not implemented as we can see many people smoke cigarettes Beedies in public places in front of shops etc. Minister should also give importance to this and ban it fully.

Dear Khadar, you can stop only small shops business and disturb their daily life. Before doing this raid why you didn’t think that your people (Karnataka Govt.)Only given the license to the distributors and wholesales dealers. Could you cancel the license for the Gutka distributors and wholesales dealers? You never because more than crores of tax from tobacco and gutka only. As we say “There is a dark behind the light” in your area only (Mangalore, Ullal, Deralakatte, Konaje, Manjanady) covered by Ganja activities. Can get a lavish of ganja in this area. For this to stop who will take action? Any how I will appreciate your spirit. But utilize your spirit to treat from root not on the top. Hope you will create a healthy Karnataka as a health minister.

Excellent job by U T Khader. The Gutka seller should be jailed instantly. One of my friends in India used to eat 20 packets of gutka per day and sadly he died a year ago with mouth cancer, leaving behind wife and young children. Ban gutka for ever and save precious lives.

If a person does good things people will definitely praise him, irrespective of whether he belongs to a,b,c party. BJP/BD/VHP try to do good for the betterment of the society then people will praise you . But your agenda is different. Mr. Khader has done right thing. If small traders stop selling gutka the supplier will not dump the product in his shop. This way we can stop consumption of the poisonous products.

If someone does good job, definately we have to appreicate. But Congis never supported/appreciated such things done by BJPians. Instead you guys were saying that, its vote bank politics.

Stopping/ban on Gutka is a good act. But, Health Minister Raiding Gutka selling shops is a Crazy thing...
By selling Gutka shop-keeper will get 25p or less profit. they are running shops for their livelihood. Health minister is raiding those poor mans shop and soiling his stock, is looks like crazy act. He should stop the supply, He should catch the big fishes..those who are engaged in the business of supplying the gutka to the state or companies producing the gutka. Guess Ministers won't catch those big mans because they are sheltered under political leaders...!!
Ministers only do raids on poor helpless peoples in the way of getting shine in the party & it is a political game to get status in common peoples eye.
Go and catch the big fishes, instead of harassing poor.

Oh Khader Bhai, very good move but remember one thing, every time to raid one shop, you will lose minimum two to three votes and for every packet to catch, you will lose one vote which is unwanted, so better you give order to concerned authority to do the work because our people have their own sentiments when it comes to Beedi, Cigarette or Gutka

He is the real hero. I like him very much.

Out of 4 ministers from the district he is the only one proactively working for the people. Rai is a waste dumb fellow, Sorake is good for nothing, Jain has not come out from religious sentiments even after 5 months.

From the day one, I liked his style of working. But he should make efforts to control communal clashes in Mangalore like church attack, banner burning, call center attacks, car burning etc.

Recently in an interview with TOI CM Siddu praised achievements of Khader, Sharan Prakash Patil, Krishna Byregowda, Dinesh Gundoorao and said he has given full independence to these 4 ministers.

There are many good, capable people in congress party. Congress should project these kind of people as PM candidate than useless script readers. They should come out of family dependence. I hope my congress brothers agree with me.

I am glad that you have started appreciating the person and not the party he/she belongs to.I very much acknowledge the service that Mr. U.T.Khader is doing to the society and believe me its not easy. I am sure his day must be starting at 4AM in the morning and ends not later than 12 Midnight. I am sure his family must be at the receiving end of not seeing him and not getting his time. Its easy and nice to have a tag of a minister but in reality its too tough to perform as a minister. Hats off to Mr. U.T.Khadar who is discharging his duties like a real hero.
