Udupi: We will win by majority, not bothered about others: Dr Parameshwar

Udupi, Oct 22: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr Parameshwar on Monday October 21 expressed confidence that Congress would win majority of the seats in the upcoming general elections.

Addressing reporters during his visit to Udupi to attend a Congress committee meeting, he said that Congress has faith in the people of Karnataka. "We believe in the people of Karnataka and they believe in us.Till people are with us we have nothing to worry about," he said.

When asked about KJP chief Yeddyurappa's recent comment against chief minister Siddaramaiah where he reportedly addressed the latter in a demeaning manner and said he would 'go after him now', Dr Parameshwas refused to comment saying that he was unaware of what Yeddyurappa had said as he was travelling, and he would not talk about it without knowing the details.

On the poll preparations by various parties, he said, "We are not bothered by what others do. We have a set of people and set plans for the elections. We will not bother about other people's plans."

On who would be the candidate from Udupi for the 2014 elections, he said KPCC will send a list of nominees soon to AICC. "I will be glad if the announcement is made by December as then we will have plenty of time to prepare. From our (KPCC) side, we will nominate the candidates soon," he said.

However, later during the executive committee meeting at district Congress office, he openly said that party workers should strive to ensure MP Jayaprakash Hegde's victory in the elections, giving a strong hint that Congress may have already made up its mind.

Addressing the party workers during the meeting, he said that Congress will reach out to the grassroots level and he himself will take the lead. "As KPCC president, I will visit all the districts and do the needful to ensure our victory in the elections," he said.

"We must aim to win all 28 seats in 2014," he added.

Launching a frontal attack on the BJP, he said, "BJP is trying to malign the Congress as they do not have any other way to get votes. So they target the Food Security Bill, education aid, Land Acquisition Bill and so on in order to attack us. But we are united. In UPA government whoever was corrupt or committed mistakes was either sent out or punished. Hence, blaming the entire party is not right."

About Gujarat CM Narendra Modi being BJP's choice for PM candidate, he said he has nothing to comment on it. "We don't care who stands from the opposition. But when they attack the Congress we too need to protect ourselves. Sonia Gandhi was eligible to become PM, but she gave it to a senior leader. It was Rajiv Gandhi's dream to see Rahul become the PM, and we are unitedly trying to fulfill it now."

He said the CM has allotted Rs 10 crore for the revival of Brahmavar sugar factory, and within two days it will be released. "Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MP Jayaprakash Hegde and I will hold a meeting a decide on the future course of action," he said.

On a concluding note, he said Congress will fulfill all its promises made in the manifesto in the next five years. "All party workers and the public will be taken into confidence so that we get the maximum votes in the next elections," he added.
