Mangalore, Oct 22: Though clashes that broke out between two communities on Monday October 21 night at Mallur near Neermarga had threatened to disrupt the law and order situation initially, the area was calm and peaceful on Tuesday October 22.

Altogether, nine persons including women were injured in the attack, sources said.

On Tuesday, police filed cases against 25 persons who were allegedly involved in the clashes. Some of them were identified as Kamal, Safan, Rizwan, Ibba, Kalandar, Farooq, Prasad, Nasir, Mustafa, Rafique, Asif, Irshad, Thousif and Sadiq.

Initially, it was reported that the incident sparked off when a few youths belonging to a particular community tried to steal a bike parked outside Kunjanna's house where people had come to attend a funeral ceremony. The youths were noticed and questioned by the people, and arguments arose.

Later at night, the youths allegedly barged into Kunjanna's house and attacked him and his family. The bike belonged to Praveen, who too was injured in the incident.

However, sources also claimed that the youths, identified as Shaukat and Nizam, had damaged Praveen's bike, which resulted in the assault.

The situation on Monday night had turned tense following the attack on Kunjanna's house. It is learnt that miscreants pelted stones and damaged a few vehicles. Quick police action brought the situation under control.

Dear Bulsamji, it’s correct that innocents should not be punished by law. But pls also note that those who are injured are also innocents too. Few innocents may be getting suffered in the hands of law initially, because Police Department has to start the investigation from the trash only. Unless they catch some rowdy sheeter and give some treatment nobody will give info to Police even if they know who the culprit is…
