Bangalore: Man who tried to help 'thrashed' by police

Bangalore, Oct 23 (DHNS): Life may not remain normal for G Rajesh, a software engineer, who was forced to pay a heavy price for being a good Samaritan.

He was allegedly thrashed by the Bannerghatta police with a cricket bat and the impact may cripple Rajesh for life. The youth, in his early 30s and hailing from Manjeri in Malappuram district of Kerala, is now admitted to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be serious.

With the help of his friends, Rajesh has approached the Karnataka Police Complaints Authority (KPCA) against the Anekal police with a written complaint.

According to Rajesh’s submission, on October 16, he spotted two youths fighting when he went to buy cigarettes near Federal Bank on Bannerghatta Road. Policemen reached there and started beating the youths black and blue.

When Rajesh intervened, requesting the police to be considerate towards the youths, police allegedly took Rajesh to the police station and reportedly thrashed him with the bat. The police snatched his mobile phone and didn’t even bother to shift the bleeding Rajesh to hospital.

Threatened with dire consequences

Rajesh said the police forced him to sign a letter written in Kannada. He was threatened with dire consequences if he did not say in front of the magistrate that he suffered fractures from a fall.

Rajesh further stated in his complaint that he was given a high dose of painkillers when he was produced before the magistrate. Later, he was admitted to Fortis Hospital, where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures on his legs.

The victim informed his friend Gopal Menon about the mental and physical trauma he went through. On Tuesday, Justice M P Chinnappa of the KPCA asked Rajesh’s friends, who had given a representation on his behalf, to come with relevant documents to prove that his friend was manhandled by the police.

In USA this kind of police atrocity is very common. USA is developed country they say.
In a developing country these type of wrong things do happen and Indian police may be taking a page out of USA Police functioning.

This kind of happenings should be taken seriously and dealt with by the Government. Otherwise people will be afraid to divulge the truth or come forward to inform any criminal activity they have noticed or even go to help a accident met person\s.
By saying that, I do not say all policemen are like these policemen.

It is best Government (home ministry) took notice of this incident and take stringent action against the erring police officials and give confidence to people who want to help out the police.

I am really sad, I use to help people in roads in one or another way. Now I will be cautious and think 100 times before helping someone on road especially in bangalore as long as this sort of police officials are working.
We cant expect justice when the case is related to Police department. During BJP regime, This type of crime was a at peak especially on minorities since Police atrocities was supported by BJP for the BJP selfish end. I am surprised How can a Policeman use third degree on Software Professional. It was a trend only on illiterate people, Now Even the professional are also targeted in this manner. I am sure this case will only bite dust at the end.
Bangalore Police is really corrupt as I have seen in my naked eyes collecting haftha from poor road side vendors.

The police rowdism is getting worse every day. Who can fix that? This attitude of the police can't be seen in many parts of the world. The police is acting worse than the British police and treating the public like street dogs.

This clearly reflects that police ignore the home minister's directives for policemen to maintiain healthy public relationships.

Govt. has utterly failed in Karnataka in this respect.

IT IS NONE OF OUR BUSSINESS TO GET INVOLVED IN BETWEEN POLICE AND CRIME EVEN IF WE ARE RIGHT.
IT IS POLICE TO DECIDE TO PROTECT THE CRIMINAL AND PUNISH THE LAYMAN AS IN THE CASE OF SOWJANYA MURDER CASE WHERE HIGH LEVEL OFFICERS TRIED TO HUSH UP THE MATTER.
DEMOCRACY IN CONGRESS RULED STATE IS GOONDA RAJ THROUGH POLICE WHO ARE AUTHORISED FOR THAT MATTER.
POLICE DON'T WANT TO LISTEN ANYBODY TILL THEY GET THEIR SHARE OF VITAMIN "M".

These are goons in uniform misusing the powers given to them by the democratic rule. They have forgotten that their job to protect the citizen and not to throw their weight around.Today police job is one of the most shameful job and a decent man will not join that force unless you want make quick money standing on the highway odd hours to fill their superiors pockets.

These arrogant heartless policemen always view every individual as a criminal. The entire team of Bannerghatta Police Station must be suspended for at least six months. This should be lesson for all policemen misbehaving with innocent, kindhearted people.

The Police only show their 'bravery' with unarmed civilians. Thats how the Indian police is.Corrupt to the core and can be easily bought . Remember Mumbai attacks when 10 policemen fled the screen from CST. One police station were so shxt scared that switched off their lights when Kasab walked by instead of confronting them.

The term "POLICE" itself is a frightening in our country.

Often they are the goons than the law keepers.

Vested interest of the police in general are the causes of such behavior and the pathetic law & order situation in INDIA.

If found guilty, punish these police men not only with suspension but life imprisonment. Cause they are trouble makers and dangerous to the very society.

Well, nature of being too Samaritan is sometime doesn't do good.

Looks like Rajesh's interference annoyed the policemen doing their duty. But again, it is policemen's high handedness, beating the innocent civilian mercilessly. Hope Rajesh and his family will file a criminal case against the policemen involved in the cruel assault.
