Abu Dhabi: Karnataka Sangha to confer Da Ra Bendre Award on C R Shetty

Abu Dhabi, Oct 24: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha will host 'Karnataka Rajyotsava' celebration with traditional gaiety and splendor at India Social and Cultural Centre, Mina Road, Abu Dhabi on Friday November 1 from 10.30 am.

The chief guest for the event will be M K Lokesh, ambassador of India to UAE. The event will be presided over by Dr B R Shetty, patron, UAE Kannadigas, and his wife.

On the occasion, the award "Da-Ra Bendre Prashasthi" will be conferred on C R Shetty, founder and former president of Dubai Karnataka Sangha, for his contribution towards Kannada Nadu and Nudi.

Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha president Sarvotham Shetty said various programmes will be staged during the celebration. Variety of Kannada group dances and songs, by Divya Sharma and team along with mimicry and standup comedy by star mimicry artiste Dayanand from Bangalore will enthrall the audience. Dance drama 'Shila Balikas' by Rohini Ananth and group, Dubai will be performed.

Sarvotham Shetty also said the added attraction to the programme will be performances by Sri Mukambika Cultural Academy, Puttur (Mangalore). They will perform dance drama 'Kavi Kanda Karnataka', 'Shiva Thandava Nruthya', and different types of Kannada Janapada Nruthya.


Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha will also honour the following Kannadiga student achievers (UAE level):
 
* Students of 10th and 12th grade who have scored 90% or above in the board examination of 2013.

* Students who have excelled in sports activities and represented their school in India or abroad and earned gold/silver/bronze medals.

* Students who have excelled in extra-curricular activities (literary, arts and quiz) and earned recognition from prominent authorities in India or abroad.

*Students who have earned Shaikh Hamdan Award, Dubai or Sharjah Award.
