Bangalore, Oct 25: A year after the announcement and cancellation of the Kannada film awards for the year 2010-11 following Karnataka High Court orders to constitute a fresh committee for the selection due to the alleged irregularities, the Kannada film awards for the same year have been announced afresh.

A highlight of the Kannada film awards for the year 2010-11, which were announced in Bangalore on Friday, is the selection of Kannada matinee film idol Dr Rajkumar’s son Puneet Rajkumar and the newly elected Mandya Congress MP, Ramya, as the best actors for their roles in 'Jackie’ and 'Sanju Weds Geetha’ respectively.

Apart from Ramya, yet another politician-film personality, the State Housing Minister M H Ambareesh has been  chosen for the Dr Vishnuvardhan Award for lifetime achievement in various fields in the industry. The award carries a purse of Rs 2 lakh and a gold-plated plaque.

The announcement of the Kannada film awards for the year 2010-11 was made by the new selection committee chairman, noted film director Bhagwan, in the presence of State Information and Tourism Minister Santosh Lad.

The selection committee watched 50 Kannada films eligible for the selection during the year.

'Maagiya Kala,’ directed K Shivarudraiah and produced by Ms Bhagya Chinnaswamy (Bhodi Creations, Bangalore), was adjudged the best film followed by 'Tamassu’ (second best), directed by Agni Sridhar and produced by Sayyed Aman Bachchan and 'Manasa’ (third best), produced by Anitha Rani (Ani Arts, Bangalore) and directed by Kodlu Ramakrishna.

'Byari,’ produced by Altaf Hussain and directed by Suveeran, won the award in the social issues category. The film had also bagged the national award.

'Onduralli’ won the award in the children’s film category. The film was produced by Sai Raksha Entertainment Pvt Limited and directed by Nikhil Manju.

The Dr Rajkumar Award for outstanding contribution to the Kannada film industry went to veteran actor S Shivaram, while veteran director Bhargava was chosen for the Puttanna Kanagal Award for life-time achievement. Both the awards carry a purse of Rs 2 lakh and a gold-plated plaque.

The best actor award in supporting role went to Achyut Kumar for his role in 'Hejjegalu’ while female actor in support role was bagged by Harshika Poonacha for her role in 'Tamassu.’

Master Channakumar and Baby Prakruthi bagged the best child artiste awards for their roles in 'Nanna Onduralli’ and 'Hejjegalu.’

The film Super bagged a special award for its graphic design while the Kodava film, 'Na Puttan Mann’ bagged the best regional language film.

Best dubbing awards gone to Sringeri Ramanna and Anushri for their role in 'Veerabhavu’ and 'Murali Meets Meera,’ respectively.

    Who told you that those guys dont know to act. Puneet is a very talented actor from childhood and also an very good dancer. Also Ambi sir is an good actor and Ramya the same. Looks like the people like you will always accept whatever the over acting and bundle acting the people like Salman, Sharukh or akshay do, but when it comes to Kannada film industry you people pass such comments.

    FYI.. Puneeth is a very good actor, watch his movies like vamshi, milana, paramathma & yaare koogadali... even he is a very good dancer... his well known show kannadadha kotyadhipathi earned lots of name & fame not only in karantaka even across the globe..

    Ambarish is well known for his acting.. watch nagarahaavu, operation antha...

    Ramya is also a good actress, watch sidlingu, sanju weds geetha...

    dont degrade ambi & ramya just bcoz they belong to congress.. we know u cant digest their success in movies as well as politics..
