Bangalore: Woman thrashed, chased, burnt alive by neighbours

Bangalore, Oct 26 (DHNS): A woman was chased and burnt alive by her neighbours in full public view on Thursday night in Soladevanahalli. The fatal attack followed an argument over a clothes line which was obstructing a passage.

The deceased was identified as Ravikala (28), a resident of Janata Colony in Doddabele. Her brother Ravi Kumar was also attacked, said Soladevanahalli police.

Four neighbours, who were responsible for the act, are absconding.

Ravikala was a housekeeping staff at M S Ramaiah hospital. She married Narasimha Murthy, a car driver, and they have two sons — Prajwal (11) and Nitin (7). Her parents live with Ravi Kumar on the same lane, said the police.

Munithayamma Mundanappa and her children — Manjunath, Murali and Rupa — lived in a house behind Ravikala’s. There was a small passage between their houses, which Munithayamma’s family was compelled to use.

Ravikala and Munithayamma developed differences after the former tied a rope along the passage to dry clothes.

Matters escalated after Ravikala turned down Munithayamma’s request to remove the clothes line as it obstructed entry to her house. They used to have frequent quarrels, said the police.

Sources told Deccan Herald the families often threatened each other. Around 8:30 pm on Thursday, Munithayamma hurled a volley of abuses at Ravikala after finding it difficult to cross the passage.

She threw some clothes on the ground and asked Ravikala to remove the rope, but Ravikala refused.

Soon, a large number of locals gathered near the house. But they did not intervene as such face-offs were regular.

Munithayamma then called her three children, and the four started thrashing Ravikala. Ravikala’s children Prajwal and Nitin ran to Ravi Kumar’s house to inform him about the incident.

Meanwhile, Munithayamma and her children poured kerosene on Ravikala.

As Ravi Kumar ran to his sister’s rescue, he was attacked with a wooden plank.

The assailants then chased Ravikala inside her house and set her ablaze, said the police. Both Ravikala and her brother were rushed to a hospital, where Ravikala was declared brought dead.

The police have booked Munithayamma, Manjunath, Murali and Rupa for murdering Ravikala and attempting to murder Ravi Kumar.

Two special teams have been formed to arrest them.

“There are definite clues and we will arrest them shortly,” Sandeep Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said.

Changing face of INDIAN culture! We are growing most "IN-HUMAN & INTOLERABLE" by the day.

From where did this culture came about? Intolerance, hatred, respect-less and above all crookedness Is it the 5000 years of glory or cultural sham!

Glamour and fast track life with has diminished our attitudes. Total dis-respect to HUMANITY. Loose social and ethical values. I pity the onlookers, shouldn't we call them gender-less?

There are five parties to this episode

    THE VICTIM
She was stubborn, but did she deserve to be murdered by burning.

    THE MURDERERS
These are not human beings they are a pack of hyenas and this may not be their last victim. Only a Hyena Mother can teach her children such dreadful behaviour.

    THE WATCHFUL LOCALS/NEIGHBORS
Guess they all needed to be entertained even if it meant a helpless woman being burnt alive.

    WE YOU & I.
Can we contribute to bring about a change to such brutality? A lot of people are killed over trivial property issues and their children left destitutes. What do we do?

    THE LAW
This is a heinous crime and as such the murderers should be treated with lightning firmness with the three children whatever their age to be treated as adults. They have got their first taste of murder and they will not hesitate to do it again. A swift and firm sentence nothing less then the death penalty should be meted to these murderers to send a swift and clear message to deter anyone else from following suit.

This is the worst crime ever. For these cruel animals punishment is not hanging.Hanging is the easiest puinishment !! cut their hands and legs and let them live till death. this is the real punishment not hanging.Govt must change hanging to cutting hands and legs. then only society will change otherwise it will continue!!

OMG! I can’t believe this. This is truly outrageous and probably the people who have done this are insane! How the society is turning so violently now a days? I guess Blore police should take some serious actions on this kind of incidents and send the assailants behind the bars.

In this world of ever increasing intolerance, it is prudent to go with the social flow and not against it.
I condemn this cruel act but the behavior of the deceased must have been awful for another woman to instigate to kill her so violently.
It is a lesson for all of us to promote peaceful and cooperative social existence.

Not really good to hear about what had happened. Some good person in india started a campaign called "SAKSHRATHA ANDOLAN". I really do not understand what the hell have people learnt thru this. India is a country united by team of country men and the same country will be torn apart with the small and silly differences we find in us.

Please note all the so called people you use weapons & arms or burn people....many of been wittnessed that what you do will be paid in the same way.

One small incident in my Life I would like to put forth to the readers: I knew a person who always hated keralites. Wherever he goes and find a keralite he was mis-treating them with all bad words and whatever way he could insult them....God above might be nicely seeing all this he punished him one day.....One of his daughter got married with a Keralite...

The above might be a co-incident to all those people who think that way....but not for the one who has wittnessed....

Last but not the least...I had watched a kannada movie recently called TOPIWALA....however might the movie be done but the moral was superb...."DEMOCRACY - THALE ILLADAVARIGALLA"

Please learn something from Life and if possible do Good and not be always involved in politics and fights.

There are some sick commenters here who seems to be also uneducated. They see every incident from political angle. This particular incident is purely human behaviour and can happen at any level. Things sometimes go out of control and in a fit of rage they dont bother being imprisoned or sent to the gallows. Even blaming police on every incident happening in every nook and corner is pure stupidity because in a largely populated country like India we can not have a police station for every 1 km.

We are living in 21th century with state of the art living conditions and scientific advancement.Such a trivial reasons led to brutal/inhuman killing. We are going back to 18th century when we look in to the humanity factor. This killing is indeed foolish and no consideration for humanity.Guilty must be kept in the iron bar for life.
