its not easy as you think valerian. The intricacies of law are manifold. The law takes its own course. A case is booked against the offender and the contraband is kept in safe custody of the court till disposal of the case.

I personally feel that what we buy and send from dubai is a income for dubai. be it gold or electronics. as you said what does dubai get if they pass on the message to mangalore, ppl will stop buying and then its a loss for dubai. the more sold in dubai the good name they get. one thing is sure, if a mangalorean is sitting in the airport scanner divison then he may pass on the message to get his share. that can happen. but blaming dubai is not acceptable.

Its very simple. When they get contra band products. They take it to open space and dump the products and they run bull dozer on that...But in the case of gold they take it to their backyard and run bul dozer on that.....full stop to the story...

@Fousia All the baggages are screened before loading into aircraft. Baggage screening is done after the check in its called as in-line baggage screening if any suspicious itmes found passanger will be held at gates while boarding for clarification.

Do you think only four cases were detected? it is a in the ocean. I wonder whether the Customs have fool proof system to check all the baggage. What about gold in the form of jewellery like chains, bracelets worn by people (mostly ladies) and concealed under their garments. what about the customs officers colluding with the smugglers?

Greed also is Mother of Invention.
Lost everything now. Hard earned money down the drain...

This inventive way of smuggling gold is better than earlier one.
Someone may have given out the information to customs. Otherwise it would have been difficult to notice.

Some passengers may not be aware of latest regulations and also technologies available at the airport to detect Gold objects unlike outdated Xray machines which cant differentiate between different metals.
Basic purpose of law enforcement system is to educate and maintain legal system. Detering is the prioroty over Punishment. Keeping booklets in all flights clearly stating the prevailing import or export allowances ,permitted goods and regulations, specially in domestic languages surely educates the passengers .

I don't condone the gold smuggling, but the guy must have evaded just around a Lac rupees to deserve this treatment...

Hello.. who said they do not scan in Dubai, only weigh.... I worked in airport so I know were they scan. this is the latest hassle free check in system nowadays adapted in most of the airports in UAE. the bags will be scanned underground in a area with sniffer dogs as well available.they do not stop departing passengers because they are leaving their country unless it is drugs.

Mr. Allan Dcosta, Kinnigoli / Abu Dhabi,
According to you in dubai airport they will scan all the baggage’s and of course they will identify whatever it is (whether it is gold or drug), and if they will find gold in any baggage, i suppose they will pass the message to customs officials of Mangalore International Airport....... then story will go on by seizing....... no wonder.

Bringing Gold to India is criminal offence and sending money from India is also criminal activity. If you want to send money outside India you have fulfill so many Government formalities. But remitting money from Dubai no formalities from Government It is free city you can buy Gold, Diamond from the local markets and carry to your home country on your own risk. Don't comment without knowing the rules of Dubai. They are allowing not only because they want to sell gold.

No, all bags are scanned prior to stack into the plane. Though the bags are not scanned in front of the passenger while check-in but those are scanned later in the conveyer belt before loading. Its foolishness to think bags are not scanned.
