Kundapur: Accident in Bangalore claims young cricketer's life

Kundapur, Oct 27: A budding cricketer hailing from Kundapur died in an accident in Bangalore in the wee hours of Sunday October 27.

The deceased is Umesh Kharvi (26), son of Kogga Kharvi and resident of Kharvi Keri, Kundapur.

Sources said that he died after his Royal Enfield bike hit a tree at around 2 am near Shivanalli Junction, Bangalore.

Kharvi was a right-hand batsman and bowled medium pace.

He had represented Karnataka in the Under-17 in 2002 to 2004, South Zone Under-17 between 2002 and 2004, India Under-17 in 2003-04, Karnataka Under-22 in 2007-08. He was also part of the Karnataka State Cricket Association XI.

Kharvi's friend Mithun, who was riding pillion sustained minor injuries. It is said that they had gone for a ride following a party thrown by Umesh and his friends for Mithun, who had come to the city a week ago in search of job. 

Vijayanagar traffic police have registered a case.

    i have met umesh kharvi at bangalore. he is so simple i did not think he is such a great personality. i am so proud because i met a cricketer like umesh kharvi. i felt so sad by hearing this news

    Why this young cricketer was in a bike at 2.00 AM in Bangalore roads,was he returning from a booze party,otherwise how can he hit a divider in Bangalore roads as they are very broad and almost well maintained, but I feel sorry for this young Karve kere cricketer, My condolences to the bereaved family and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
