Mangalore: Two rescued, three missing as Lakshadweep-bound vessel capsizes

Mangalore, Oct 28: Two persons were rescued and three went missing after a mini vessel to Lakshadweep capsized near Androth Island.

The ‘Madonna’ cargo vessel owned by Rafiq left Mangalore on October 24 at 11.30 am with cement, gravel stones and food items.

Altogether, there were 5 crew members in the cargo vessel, all were from Thutu Kudi.

As the vessel did not reach Lakshadweep on time, a search operation was launched, during which the tragic incident came to light.

Sathish and Arnelias were rescued while Maria Sosai Antony, J Maris Fernandes, and Maria Jesuva Anna have gone missing.

The loss is estimated at around Rs 50 lac.

A search for the missing persons is on.
