Bantwal, Oct 30: Narikombu gram panchayat members visited AMR power project site here on Wednesday October 30, acting on public complaints that the company has undertaken additional construction work without the panchayat's knowledge.

The panchayat members found that an extra pump house was being constructed here without permission.

The panchayat members said that they visited the spot after giving six days' notice to the company to verify complaints of channel work that was allegedly in progress. Former president of panchayat Anand Salian said that panchayat permission is mandatory for any construction work in the area.

AMR plant manager Premnath explained that the bypass channel is being constructed as lot of water flows from the river during monsoons.  More than 30 gates of water had to be let out during last year, he said. However, the panchayat officials did not agree with him.

The company plant manager did not allow media persons to click pictures saying that photography was prohibited. The panchayat official intervened saying that additional construction also was prohibited and asked the photographers to click pictures.
