Mangalore, Nov 1: 'Pallam ani Mullam', a book by Fr Denis Castelino was released in a programme organized jointly by Kittall.com and Evershine Publications at Milagres church hall here on Friday November 1.

The book was released by Fr Mark Walder, former editor of Raknno along with other dignitaries. Sahitya Akademi winner Melvyn Rodrigues, Rohan Monteiro of Rohan Corporation were the guests.

Poet Melvyn Rodrigues in his address said that by publishing this book, Evershine Publication has rejuvenated again. "The book written by Fr Castelino has a magnetic pull which keeps the reader engrossed till the end. The book is rich in language and has various stories about various persons," he said.

"The book comprising of true-life stories of the author touched my heart and made me ponder," he added.

"The publisher's responsibility should not stop at just publishing the book, instead they should also prepare the readers. They should identify true and good readers, and ensure that Konkani literature reaches them," he added.

Mark Walder said Fr Castelino’s writings are rich, full of meaning, with journalistic qualities in them. "I was sure that they would be liked by people, hence published most of his writings when I was the editor in Raknno."

"While reading the book, I felt that it had qualities of Dalit literature. The writers should correct mistakes in society and write literature in connection to the poor and work on uplifting them. I wish that Konkani literature grows to greater heights," he said.

H M Pernal, editor, briefed about Evershine Publications.

Titus Noronha welcomed the gathering while Dora Castelino compered the programme. William Pais proposed vote of thanks.

Fr John Fernandes, Fr Wilson D’Souza, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr Francis Gomes, Fr Francis Rodrigues among others were present.
