MUMBAI, Mar 28: Parts of the country, including Ahmedabad, northern and southern and eastern India will witness a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday.

According to astronomer Dr. J J Rawal, the eclipse – which will not be visible in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and other areas – will take place from 4.41 pm to 4.43 pm on Wednesday. Visibility is expected to be the best in Gujarat.

The eclipse will be total in South Africa and Brazil, and will be visible in varying degrees of partiality in other parts of the world, said Rawal, former director of Mumbai’s Nehru Planetarium.

The next total solar eclipse, which will be visible in parts of the country, will occur in 2009. While Mumbai will again witness it partially, south India will be plunged into darkness, Rawal added.

He said there is scientific evidence linking eclipses with earthquakes. In fact, there are astrological predictions of a major earthquake tomorrow somewhere in the world.
