Mangalore: Myriad lanterns at Kudroli Temple transport visitors to world of lights

Mangalore, Nov 2: Attractive lanterns of myriad colours, sizes and shapes were the cynosure of all eyes at the ‘Goodu Deepa’ competition organized by Namma Kudla channel at Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple here on Friday November 1.

The competition was organized in three categories - traditional, modern and nature. Winners in all the three categories were given gold coins.

More than 500 colourful lanterns adorned the premises of the Temple, virtually creating a world of lights altogether. Kulshekar Master Guys’ 11-ft tall lantern made by using coconut shell, lantern in the shape of Taj Mahal, Vivekananda memorial rock at Kanyakumari and many other unusual and creative lanterns made the competition tough for the judges and delightful one for the visitors.

Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Trust was conferred the ‘Namma Kudla-2013’ Award on the occasion. Sadananda Shetty, president of Shri Devi Education Trust was honoured with the ‘Namma Tuluveru’ Award. Shreyank S Kotian, student of St Aloysius School was also recognized with a talent award.

Former MLA Krishna J Palemar, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, MLA Abhaychandra Jain, Sai Ram, Harish Karkera, Leelaksha Karkera, Mohan Karkera, Suresh Karkera, H S Sairam, Padmaraj, Dr B G Suvarna, Navaneeth Shetty and Bhaskar Rai Kukkavalli were present during the inaugural ceremony.
