Mangalore, Nov 2: The members of Kadri Cricketers celebrated the festival of lights on Saturday November 2 with a praiseworthy and meaningful gesture.

A team of around 70 members used the surplus funds collected from their recently-held superhit musical programme ‘Kadri Nite’ to distribute rice to more than 500 families on the occasion of Diwali.

The distribution of rice and sweets took place at a programme held at Kadri grounds here on Saturday November 2.

President of Kadri Criketers Manohar Shetty said, “We, the members of the club have recognized at least 500 families in and around Kadri who are poor. This is the eight consecutive year we are donating rice and sweets as charity to celebrate the festival,” he added.

Ex-MUDA president Suresh Ballal, Kadri police inspector Raghav S Padil, BJP leader Srikar Prabhu, realtor Lakshmisha Bhandary, businessman Ratnakar Jain, and young politician Amrith Kadri distributed the rice.

During the stage programme, former MUDA president Suresh Ballal said, “This initiative has to be a role model for the younger generation. A society consists of a mixture of rich and poor citizens. A bridge between them is necessary to narrow down the gap.”

Kadri police inspector added that this gesture on behalf of the club was praiseworthy.

Srikar Prabhu said, “This programme has made the festival of lights truly meaningful. This team of youngsters have been lighting the lives of other families by providing them with basic necessities."

Vishwas Kamath compered the stage programme.
