Mangalore, Nov 3: The third edition of Wilfy Rebimbus inter-parish Konkani singing contest, organized by Jeppu parishioners in memory of legendary singer Wilfy Rebimbus, was held at Jeppu Church hall here on Sunday November 3.

Altogether, the contest witnessed 80 participants from 11 parishes. The top three contestants 8 categories will qualify for the finals which will be held on November 17.

The programme was inaugurated by parish priest of Jeppu Fr Nelson Almeida in the presence of 'Konkan Mynah' Meena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, Charleen Rebimbus, Jeppu parish council vice-president Pamella Santos and secretary Laveena Dias.

The dignitaries on the dais paid homage to Wilfy Rebimbus by lighting the lamp in front his portrait.

In his address, Fr Nelson Almeida said, "We started this annual inter-parish competition three years ago and we are happy that every year it has seen good success. Through this competition, not only do budding singers get a platform to showcase their talent, but aso get an opportunity to sing Wilfy's songs. Wilfy Rebimbus continues to live among us, and this is proved by all the participants present here, from children to married couples.

"By singing Wilfy's songs, the participants are paying a fitting tribute to the legend. All the songs of Wilfy carry a message, hence we are not only singing them but also spreading his message among people," he added, wishing the participants good luck.

The judges for the competition were Fr Pius D'Souza, superior of Infant Jesus Church, Roshan Martis, technical guide in classical music, and Meena Rebimbus.

The competition was held in eight categories - ages 10-15 boys' solo and duet, girls' solo and duet; above 15 gents' solo, ladies' solo and mixed duet; and married couples. The top three in each category will compete in the finals to be held on November 17.

Good Idea to search the Singing Talents. But this looks like only Mangalore and sorrunding parishes are participating in this contest. I would suggest Meena bai to urge all the parishes of Mangalore diocese and conduct the contest on Varado wise (you may take help of Catholic Sabha of respective parishes) and then make Semi Final and Finals for the ed participants. This will really find the "Mangalore Voice of Konkani" Powered by Wilfyaab. There will be many sponsors will help if this goes at right direction.
