Kuwait: Cultural grandeur of Bunts comes to the fore at 'Buntaayana'

Kuwait, Nov 6: Buntara Sangha Kuwait celebrated another of its annual events – 'Buntaayana 2013' on a grand scale at the Cambridge English School, Mangaf Kuwait recently.

The concept behind the festival was to showcase the rich art and culture of the Bunts community with flavors of Karnataka.

Vinay Hegde, president of Nitte Education Trust and Lamina Springs graced the occasion as the chief guest and the star attraction of the event was Sony TV actor of CID fame Daya Shetty.

The rhythmic beats of the drums, "chende" by the drummers, welcomed the guests at the entrance of the hall. Beautiful ladies of Bunt community greeted the guests in to the hall with  the traditional Purna Kumbha Swagatha

The entrance to the hall was beautifully decorated by the PR committee members led by PRO Sujaya Shetty, the art and design work in the reception area represented the creative and rich traditions of Bunts community. Hall management was taken care by sports secretary Praveenkumar Shetty and behind the scene activities were efficiently coordinated by treasurer Vivek Shetty.

The cultural programmes began with a prayer song and welcome dance by the Sangha members and kids, and lighting of the auspicious ligtht by the guests, managing committee and ex-presidents of the Sangha. Vice-president Shankar Shetty welcomed the audience. On this occasion the Buntayaana Souvenir was released by chief guest Vinay Hegde.

The evening featured a host of programs showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Bunts by the Sangha kids and ladies. Mahisha Mardhana performance by Bunts ladies won great applause from the audience. The main attraction of the evening was the Yakshagana “Krishna Leele Kamsa Vadhe” performed by visiting Yakshagana artistes led by Patla Satish Shetty and ably supported by local artistes of the Sangha. The Sangha kids, ladies, and gents mesmerized the audience with their immense talent display in Yakshagana.

Vinay Hegde, Daya Shetty, and Sathish Patla were felicitated during the event with presentation of shawl. bouquet and traditional tray of fruits. The sponsors for the event were honored by presentation of mementos for their overwhelming support in putting out an event of such magnitude.

Guest VJ and singer Roopesh Shetty entertained the crowd with his stylish anchoring and melodious Tulu songs. Umesh Mijar and Lakshmeesh of 'Bale Telipaale' fame presented humorous skits, that left the audience completely enthralled.

BSK president Umesh Shetty, Adve in his speech briefed the audience about the Sangha's socio-cultural activities and the charity works done during the year. Students with outstanding academic records were encouraged by presentation of memento.

General secretary Vishwanath Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was well coordinated by cultural secretary Shalini Yadunath Alva and the event was beautifully compered by Shalini V Shetty, Ashvitha Shetty, Prithvi R Shetty.

The well-arranged programme came to an end with delicious dinner, provided by Avanthi Restaurant.
