Mangalore, Nov 8: The Pandeshwar area here witnessed a flurry of activity on Friday November 8 as the commandos of the Garuda Force, under the Centre for Counter-Terrorism (CCT), Bangalore organized a mock drill to test the city's readiness and capability to handle a terror attack and other emergencies.

The skilled commandos demonstrated various life-saving techniques, including handling hostage situations and providing instant medical care to victims of a terror attack, and countering enemies.

As part of the demo, two 'terrorists' held three persons hostage in an under-construction building, one among whom was 'shot down' by the commandos with the help of police and the other was 'injured'. The commandos enacted a situation wherein the 'terrorists' demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore and the release of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal who has been arrested by the NIA, in exchange for the captives.

The police led by IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy arrived, and the hostages were then 'rescued' by the commandos. All the while, school children watched the action-filled drill with awe and wonder marking their curious faces. They were also accompanied by equally interested mediapersons and locals.

Later at a programme held at Rosario hall, the IGP spoke to mediapersons and said that the Garuda force under the CCT, headquartered in Bangalore has 106 trained commandos and has been training police personnel in the state to handle emergency situations. Over the last three days commandos from the capital city have been holding a workshop for 75 police personnel under the western range, he said.

He further said that the local police will be trained to respond quickly to emergency situation in the district, including a terror attack or any other armed attack, and will be given special training in handling weapons, explosives, first aid, obtaining information, negotiation tactics, communication and so on.

Please dont create much hype about the drill, otherwise Diggy may seek a report from the police why they used the first version of the Taliban for drill..since the central Govt is secular, they should have used the 2nd version of the Taliban..

Mr. Allan Dcosta. I do agree what you said. But some key point must be noted. Our soldiers and comondos are brave. Our Govt should provide High tech standard dress code. I can note here there is no hand gloves used while operating the weapon. No bullet proof helmets.!!!! In some matter we have to learn from some other country. Like FBI,Sepecial Forces.

Rasheed & Rafiq..why you are worried about this drill??..you should be worried for news which says IM used Attavar residential complex for months assembling bombs which were used in Hyderabad blast & elsewhere!!..you should be worried that a Pakistani was residing in the above flat & he ran away from the flat when Yaseen was arrested..NIA has raided this flat in mangalore during Sidhu as CM and MMS as PM..Still you dont believe that Mangalore in more danger by 1st version of Taliban than the 2nd version..

Good to see that mock drill been introduced and appreciate the effort for having a team of commando's to our city.

We also need to have regular & a compulsory physical fitness work out to be conducted to our police team plus seminars to be organized to educate how to be a friend of the citizens and not their enemy. Need to be educated on how to treat people at any point of time when sought help and not dominate on them.

We have very good personalities in our Police department, certain interventions and situations make our police to act according to the orders given by some corrupt politicians.

We as responsible citizens give our full coordination and support to them when they are out to protect us. We need to join hands with hand and look forward to see our Police department with a positive approach to the needful.

It is people like you who will hide under the bush, our force is capable enough to kick the butts of terrorists, a person of negative thought will always talk nonsense. Can you remember any one incident wherein our forces have hidden under the bush, it may be happening to your country of residence.
