Mangalore: Decision on Anti-Superstition Bill only after review, say Siddu, Moily

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Nov 9: Chief minister Siddaramaiah asserted that the future course of action with regard to the draft law - The Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill, 2013 will be taken only after reviewing the draft copy.

The chief minister during his brief visit at the Mangalore airport, said, "Future action pertaining to the bill will be decided only after review of the draft copy. Government will review the bill. No committees will be formed. We have received two draft copies from The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), which was tasked with the preparation of Anti-Superstitious Bill, " he said

The CM said that he was not aware of the rape charges filed against Sringeri MLA Jeevaraj.

Speaking about the sensational Sowjanya rape case, Siddaramaiah said, "As per request from the victim's parents, the case has been handed over to the CBI. Government has no authority to order investigations under the supervision of the Supreme Court."

He added, "I have not received any letter from Beltangady MLA Vasanth Bangera regarding land grab in Dharmasthala."

Congress not scared of Modi: Veerappa Moily

"The government has not yet taken any decision on the Anti-Superstition Bill. The NSLIU (National Law School of India University) has prepared a draft sent to the government, but a decision will be taken only after reviewing the draft and taking people's opinions into consideration and will be in their interest," said union minister for petroleum and natural gas Dr Veerappa Moily.

He was addressing media persons at Circuit House here on Friday November 8.

Asked about the impact of his move to use public transport once a week to save fuel, he said, "It has been successul in creating awareness among people. It is not a personal programme but a national one. It will help to save our resources. The main intention is to save fuel; if the move is implemented properly then we can save upto 28,000-38,000 crore and the savings can be used to provide subsidy."

He also said that the new 5-kg cylinder launched by the government recently has been a success, and more migrant labourers have been making use of it.

On whether Congress was scared of BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, he said, "Modi is useful for us (Congress). People say we see him as Hitler, as a person dividing the country and the communities. He is a fascist, he cannot grow as a leader. We are not scared of him."

On the Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel controversy, he said, "Sardar Patel was purely from Congress. He was not involved in communal issues. Nothing will happen if Modi installs his statue... Modi is a whirlpool of lies.

"BJP has announced its PM candidate and is praising him a lot. Congress will not do all that," he added.

On Sowjanya case, when reporters said that the general feeling is that CBI is under government control, he brushed aside the allegation and said, "CBI is an independent body. There is no influence of government. Let the truth come out from the investigation."

Respected CM and other elected members, Only one way you can control the superstition is by proper education and public awareness. Being a Mangalorean we are all born in a place like that we have a special bond with superstitions, because we worship our ancestors and also past powers. We are ready to break any rules at any cost to save our culture. Some time back some elected people tried to stop kambala and failed. May be CM is a nasthik, that means he don't have any power to manipulate our beliefs and traditions. We only elected you for the development of the state and to act like equal and opposite to BJP, that is whatever BJP tells you are opposing. If you change your path from the development, education, health people will make you sit at home next time. Please don't act as per your mind. take decisions with collective wisdom and don't make our culture in the name of secularism. Don't even think of banning our rich traditions and culture. If you do you will get the returns from the people of karnataka, if not sure from coastal karnataka.

    As per this Bill

-Perhaps Janardhan Poojary cannot perform Urulu Seva for better health of Soniamma (as in past)(if madesnana is prohibited).
-Siddharamaih & his team may have to inaugurate the function during Rahu-Guliga Cala (But doubtful as in case Kolar for Railway).
-Siddharamaih & Janardhan Poojary cannot stop/pause their speech owing to Bangh in nearby Palli (as done in Kolar for Railway or so).
-Congressmen in the future cannot fall at the feet of Soniamma to woo her ( as there would not be PadaPooja).
    etc.etc....

    Dear Siddu,
According Indian constitution please define superstition. Is it Conducting auspicious function avoiding Rahu kal,or looking for good muhurath, Bootha kola? belief in Ramayana, astrology etc or avoiding no 13 or scarred of 13th Friday or ing number plates of vehicle with 999,111,786 etc. I want to know which are the superstitious practice you want to ban. According to Rationalist worshipping god is also a superstition like in China. Remember no rulers have survived touching the religious sentiments. You can bring the rules to punish people who misuse. You are totally confused and I think you are wrongly preparing for Loksabha election. You remember this, the majority of the people are superstitious.

Oh Sidla, one more flop show? Why did you decide to implementation of this bill without reviewing and taking general public into confidence? If you don’t have faith in Hindu Dharam fine, but don’t ever try to hurt the sentiments of Hindus in the name of Superstition by preparing such bill only applies to Hindus. Just try to include the name of other religions and then you see the reaction from other religious people too

Siddarama has become Buddurama by giving frequent statements on his brain child 'anti superstition' bill. When he was elected as CM of the state,it was felt that this man will give good governance, alas he has no plans of development but only anti hindu postures. It is good that his policies are being criticized not only by others but even his own party men.Yesterday Mr.Janardhan Poojary has made it clear that there is no question of implementing both shadi bhagya and antisuperstition bill in its present form.Siddu acts first first and then only thinks its consequences.Either he should change his advisers or relinquish CMs post and allow some able candidates because it appears that CMs post is not his cup of tea.Let him not become laughing stock anymore.People expect that our CM should be a dignified one.
