Bangalore: Renuka case - Nurse Jayalakshmi punished for attempting suicide

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Nov 9: Nurse Jayalakshmi, who has had a long-standing battle with former minister Renukacharya over alleged sexual harassment, has been 'punished' by the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) court for attempting suicide.

The court awarded a penalty of Rs 3,000 and ordered her to sit in the court hall for two hours.

Jayalakshmi who appeared in the court on Friday November 8 admitted that by attempting suicide she had made a big mistake. She submitted a written statement to the court admitting that she committed a crime by trying to end her life.

Accepting her statement, judge Vijaykumar ordered her to pay a penalty of Rs 3,000 and made her sit in the court from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Jayalakshmi had attempted suicide on July 17, 2007 in her flat at Yeswantpur, by consuming sleeping tablets. The Yeswantpur police had taken suo moto action in registering a case and submitted a chargesheet in the court.

Jayalakshmi had filed court case against Renukacharya alleging sexual harassment, and followed it up with numerous protests and press meets during the last several years. She had also filed a complaint with the Karnataka Women’s Commission against Renukacharya. She had also got non-bailable warrant issued against the former minister, before attempting suicide. Earlier this year, she joined BSR Congress.

I am no fan of Mr. Renukacharya, but intend to offer clarifications to the comments here above.
Firstly the charges on the honorable ex-minister are NOT of rape as accused here.
secondly, abetment to suicide is a very serious charge like murder and it was not invoked in connection to this suicide anywhere. I know u dont like renukachrya.. but dont blame the poor man for everything the nurse does.
The law will take its course and justice will prevail. at least let us have hope.

Surprised to hear the order of the honorable court.....Immediate decision for this lady who attempted suicide.....Mr. Judge is this what really your law says??????

You had taken enough time to give your decision against the culprits, but your justice was instant to this lady....

Please do not make us shameless in front of the world. The whole world is watching.....We are citizens of this country and trying to gather positiveness amongst us to see better future to our country.....

Sorry Mr. Judge....We did not expect this from you. Did it not struck you once that on what situations and harasments the lady has gone thru?????.

I do not agree with your arguments. The sou Moto case has been registered in July 2007, which is more than 6 years. It is stated that, "Jayalakshmi who appeared in the court on Friday November 8 admitted that by attempting suicide she had made a big mistake".
    The judgement is perfect as,
    1. Dragging the case further will affect her mentally
    2. Confession will not give any more chance to waste the courts' precious time.

Giving inspiration or encouraging to suicide also punished.... so that if because of Renukacharya, she is attempted for suicide..., means he also should be punished or pay the penalty.

For admitting and for written statement she was punished Rs.3000 and 2 hours sitting in the court not in jail.

NOW RENUKACHARYA'S PUNISHMENT IS CERTAIN. HE WAS IN KUDRU TO CHECK ANY RAPE SKELETONS IN THE RIVER.

FORMER EXCISE MINISTER MADE SOME EXERCISE IN THE KUDRU. NOW HE WILL HAVE EXERCISE IN THE RAPE CASE, HOPE WILL NOT ESCAPE.

ANY WAY RENUKACHARYA HAS MADE GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY IN HIS LAST DAYS IN THE BJP TENURE.
