Mangalore, Nov 10: "The central government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 42 crore for the development of important roads in Dakshina Kannada district," said district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai.

He was addressing a gathering of industrialists during an interactive meeting organized by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and industry (FKCCI), Bangalore in association with Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mangalore in its premises here on Saturday, November 9.

He added that the grant has been received from the union ministry of road transport headed by Oscar Fernandes, under the Central Road Fund (CRF). The Fund is compiled from the taxes collected on petrol and diesel, he added. He said there were numerous queries from industrialists too on why road connectivity to South Kanara from the other districts was in poor state.

Thokkottu-Mudipu road to be widened

State health minister and Ullal constituency MLA U T Khadar said that Rs 7.5 crore has been sanctioned to meet the long time demand of the people to widen Thokkottu to Mudipu road. The road connects at least seven educational institutions and Infosys, however, the narrow road witnesses long traffic blocks frequently.

The health minister said that the Government Wenlock Hospital will get a super-speciality centre with additional 350 beds. In addition, one polyclinic will be established for every 50,000 population.

High level committee

"To keep environmental degradation in check, a high level committee has been formed to study and regulate the functioning of industries," said Ramanath Rai.

The minister said, "Environment protection is the responsibility of the industrialists. Apart from ensuring its pro-environment functioning, the firm must plant as many trees as possible in its premises."

In response, R Shivakumar, president of FKCCI, Bangalore said, “We are not against environment. But the forest officers act like  foreigners whenever we approach them. We (industrialists) are given step-motherly treatment,” he said, adding, “Industries create huge employment and boost economy.”

President, FKCCI, Bangalore R Shivakumar in his introductory speech listed out problems existing in road connectivity between South Canara and other cities, railway, port and tourism issues. Vice-president, FKKCI Tallam R Dwarakanath chairman, district co-ordination committee, FKCCI were present on the dais.

I am a resident of Mumbai , had visited Udupi recently and was returning back to Mumbai by Bus.
The one thing that struck me that the roads in Udupi district is very bad , but as soon as you cross over Uttara Kannada district the roads are comparatively better and this start right from the Notice Board that welcomes you to Uttara Kannada district.

You and your friends are so used to that kind deletion of zeros from the original amount sanctioned for any development in earlier Government tenure of 5 years, it is hard for all of you to believe even now when things are falling into places and slowly the face of Karnataka, which had black soot all over, it's face is getting cleared and starting to shine.
It is only fools expect miracles to happen in just a year of take over.

We are not complaining any Govt. for the development of road, we complain as a system as whole, whereby PWD Dept is least bothered about repair and maintenance of road. Your comment is like kannada proverb" Kumbala kai Kalla andare, hegalu mutti nodida antha" Mr. Simple, You concern about popularity about 1 year old Govt.

Let there be real developments and improvements of coastal roads without giving any scope of misusing these funds. Right accountability needs to be fixed to the contractors who undertake this work ensuring the quality and the time. Hope for the best. Thanq.

Mr. Khader, if you promise and on't deliver you will face the wrath of people in the coming elections.

This is the public in 2013 and not 1963, they will rip congress apart just like the way they treated BJP if you do not deliver as promised.

Negative mind always speaks negatively. Be positive and when they failed to do the promised work of development then take them to task and make them naked. Keep an eye on it and watch them what they do. Simply criticizing for each and every damn thing is not a healthy practice. One should encourage the developmental work to be carried on.

I am wondering whether Bajpe Airport vicinity is involved in this 42Cr!!? Entry and exit roads of so called airport are pathetic. It is a total chaos at the arrival area. There is no through road. U-turn, reverse, passenger pick up, vehicles waiting to pick up passengers, people, porter trolleys, loading passenger's baggage into vehicles....Generally an unorganized scene and management! This issue needs urgent attention before another rainy season!

oscar responded to charges of small voter like me in my earlier posting. his(team)work is not over. it is just started. we don't need 42 crore roads(product)we need productive (efficient)utilization of fund at reality market rates. it means mini.83% &NOT 17% (ADMITTED BY RAHUL GANDI EFFICIENCY).TO ACHIEVE THIS HE NEED TO HAVE AN EFFICIENT TEAM OF PERFORMERS. IF HE RULE BY LOYAL INFORMERS HE CANNOT IMPROVE TO BRING OUT QUANTIFIABLE AUTHENTIC DATA Substantiating HIS CLAIM. HE CAN ONLY BEaT AROUND THE BUSH LIKE laloo. oscar represent classes just not masses

7.5 crore to thokkottu- mudipu road. Thank God, khader is there the money will be well utilized. But what about the rest of 42 crores? With the track record we have seen of other Congress ministers from DK, the money will be SWAHA.

Industries do create more Employment opportunities and boost economy.

However the development should not be at the cost of environment.

Already most of the forest area was converted into residential layouts, and other commercial / agricultural activities. Even if we don not think to conserve the existing forest area which is too less percentage of the total area where we are heading.?

We need to think to conserve our environment along with the development as well.
