Mangalore, Nov 10: The elections for the coveted post of president and office-bearers of Bunt alias Nadavara Mathr Sangha, Mangalore was held at Ramakrishna College in the city and in several other centers of various taluks on Sunday November 10. The association is the main body of the Bunt community.

Educationalist A Sadananda Shetty and businessman Kodialguttu Ajith Kumar Malady are in the race for the post of president. Both of them have served as president before.

However, this year, the run-up to the election witnessed some conflict after both parties went public and criticized each other for taking the association to the ‘worst’ level and also to court due to the internal fights in the association.

The polling started at 10 am and ended in the evening. The polling took place in each of the taluks like Mangalore, Puttur, Kundapur, Sullia, Bantwal, Karkala, Beltangady and also in Udupi. Mangalore makes up for at least 5,000 of the total 13,700 votes put together in all the centers.

The counting and result will be announced on November 13.

Apart from the post of president, there are 20 other candidates contesting for the posts of office-bearers.

Well said P. Shivaram Shetty, Baroda / Vadodara. There are no two words about the magnanimous heart of bunts, be it in philanthropy or helping others, which I heard from my parents, grand parents and great grand parents in those days. Even today I have friends on whom I can rely on any help even at odd hours. They are there to help.. no matter what. As you said not only bunts but everyone should learn to accept criticism, from which we learn a lot.

All this drama will end once Ajithanna wins and the system cleanses. Till then it's our fate to tolerate all these non-senses..!! The present president Amaranath Shetty to be blamed for all these scenes who has encroached the seat since six years and didn't even called General Body Meeting since three years. Distribution of Scholarships, Endowment honors is all pending since then..

Really you are great Mr. Habeeb, Uchil. I appreciate your words. Great personality Mr. Sathishchandra Hegde. When he was the President of Bunts Sangha I used to attend all the functions. All office bearers are new faces so they don't know How prominently he was handling this Bunts sanga. Once in a year there was Annual functions. Still i remember that beautiful days.
now a days no programmes like before. No awards to bunt achievers. All politics.. No matter fighting is not a new things. where there is opp. party there is a systematic work. Bunts should learn to accept Criticism with good humor. Opinion of other communities is like a mirror which shows our own back to us. We can know how is our back only when the people of other communities tell their frank opinion. Usually people heap artificial praising on our face and do not tell our weakness in front of us. Therefore we do not come to know about weak points in our Society. So, no need of getting offended at the comment of Bhandarkar, it was in a lighter vein.

Being a principled person, I decided to get married without any Dowry in 1982, and people of all other communities praised me, but not even a single person from my own Bunts community including my direct relatives, showed any good heart to praise me. On the contrary some Bunts said that I had some hidden disease that is why I am getting married without dowry. But today I am happily retired person with two grandchildren.

Now in Bunts community the Dowry problem has almost vanished thanks to IT/BT employees.
But new Problem has arisen now. That is compulsory matching of Horoscope.
This Horoscope matching is so horrifying that some insist that out of 30 parameters atleast 28 should match. This problem is not created by young Bride or Bridegroom, but it is created by their well Educated parents only. In fact these parents had married in olden days only for Dowry and without matching any Horoscope by their elders. Then why the same people now insist for matching the Horoscope of their Children, is beyond any logic. Matru Sangha can arrange for public discussion on this topic once the Election is over and Committee is in place.

bunts rated top in all segment 10- 13 years ago specially leading the community with pride nature of helping n creative work , today due to various reasons we are dividing our unity ! why a second term given to both presidential candidate to contest ? do we think we don't have any other candidate from udupi and mangalore district ? there should be only one term for one person... he can not contest 2- 3 - 4 times as he feels l... this shows his selfish character

Akshay Rai, Dubai, please note that even though we are in Mangalore still we could not vote in spite of being Matru Sangha members since last 6 years. All those who became Members after 2007 did not get voting right as no AGM is held after 2007 and the Membership of those who joined after 2007 has not been ratified in any AGM, hence ineligible for voting !

Bunts should be united and work together for the welfare of the community. It is a shame that the community could not have a consensus in this issue. This kind of politics is dangerous for the welfare of the community. At least one of the candidates should have been sensible to withdraw the nomination.

This is the problem with the bunt community everybody wants to be in power nobody is bothered about the community

Now the group which will win will criticize the other group and in the end no work will be done just a war of words
I am not here to praise either of the candidates both are good for nothings (the way each has accused the other)
bunts sangha is nothing but a show off place for who has what (car gold, house, whose son/daughter married out of caste etc..,

Interesting contest between two giants of bunt community, never seen so much enthusiasm in any of the community welfare program, except the scholarship money they distribute every year sangha has been always the entertainment forum for rich bunts.. this election has put the bunts in a tough situation.. hope this rivalry ends soon and bunts who are economically backward gets the benefit of sangha's welfare programs...

Bunt community is ever evolving and broad minded , language must not be a matter of concern to others, as long as they are comfortable. Bunts in different parts of India and the world over speak different languages. A matter of concern must be eroding Bunts legacy and values we stand for.
