Mangalore, Nov 12:
"The proposal for the construction of a fishing port at Kulai has been sanctioned at an approximate cost of Rs 165.60 crore," said Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava, addressing a press meet here on Tuesday November 12.

"This port has been a long-awaited dream of the fishing community here. The government has given the green signal for this project, thus making the dream come true. The total estimation for this project stands at Rs 165.60 crore, out of which the central government will fund Rs 124.20 crore (75%), the New Mangalore Port Trust will fund Rs 33.12 crore (20%) and the state government will fund Rs 8.28 crore (5%)," he said.

The above mentioned estimations have been discussed in a series of meetings held under the leadership of state fisheries Minister K Abhaychandra Jain and the officials of NMPT and the fisheries department, he added.

He further said that 9.57 acre of land is required for this project and the survey for the same has also been carried out. Various other minor projects with connected to the fisheries department have also been sanctioned and will be carried out at the earliest, he said.

"Also, Rs 15 lac will be sanctioned to every corporator for the basic development of his or her area. Concrete roads and footpaths will be constructed in select parts of Mangalore and Suratkal, at a total estimated cost of Rs 55 crore," Bava said.

"Fish and vegetable markets will be constructed in Kulur and Kavoor regions and the land for the same has already been notified. A building on rent has been located near the Suratkal Railway Station for the establishment of RTO. This will further be helpful to the locals as they can approach RTO for any work in Suratkal itself," he said.

"Underground drainage facilities under KUDCEMP have been approved and the construction will begin in a month. Funds have also been sanctioned for the construction and repair of roads in various places under my constituency," he added.

Raghavendra Rao, Keshava Sanil and Iqbal were present.

An ordinary MLA is giving information to the Press about such an important Fishing Project. In fact this is the duty of Fishing Minister Abhya Jain.
Jain's son's marriage is over. Is he still enjoying the marriage feast leaving his official duty ?

is there a class of MLAs called ordinary and extraordinary??

what is wrong if Bava gives information to the media if the said project falls within his constituency?

Wouldn't he be held accountable to public if this project is not taken up in the proper manner or cancelled all together...???

where do the fisher folks of that area take up their grievances first??
    Jain or Bava??

We don't need any promises. We need action. First try to improve the roads. Many of the roads are pathetic. Road from Bajpe market to the airport is too bad. This needs repairs at the earliest.

The current fishing port at Bunder is at depleted state. Our state or central government doesn't have any concern to modify or renovate the same. I am sure in the name of New fishing port at Kulai, these people will make money....

Construction of new port in kulai was on blue print since last 6 yrs under Palemers tenure. Many survey's been carried out in these region about land required to carry out such project. Many meetings also been conducted in the presence of fishermen communities. This project was in the board of NMPT and Central Govt for its approval which they got it now. Bava has nothing to achieve in this project, Credit should go to Palemar. Ohh. i forgot, Bava also will get credit, that will be Percentage sharing and get some kickback...
