Govt mulling 'Shaadi Bhagya' for all below poverty line: CM

Govt mulling 'Shaadi Bhagya' for all below poverty line: CM

Bangalore, Nov 12 (PTI): Under fire from Opposition over a scheme to dole out Rs 50,000 to poor Muslim girls at the time of marriage, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said his government was considering extending it to all sections living below the poverty line.

"The scheme will not be limited only to the Muslim community, the government is planning to extend it to all sections of the society living below poverty line," he told reporters during 'Janata Darshan' at his official residence here.

The "Shaadi Bhagya" scheme launched recently by the Congress government to fulfil the ruling party's election promise has been dubbed as "vote bank politics" by BJP, while Karnataka Janatha Paksha leader and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is on an indefinite dharna seeking its extension to all communities.

Some Muslim leaders within the Congress have also not been enthusiastic about the scheme, saying it was not in consonance with the tenets of Islam and that it would unnecessarily draw "negative attention" of other communities.

Launching a tirade against Yeddyurappa, Siddaramaiah said the indefinite dharna by him was "politically motivated".

On the proposed controversial legislation on anti- superstition and black magic, he said a decision on it will be taken only after discussing its pros and cons.

"The issue will be discussed in Congress circle before taking any decision on it. I will also discuss it with Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara," he said.

The BJP has challenged the government to include superstitions practised by non-Hindu communities in the proposed legislation before it was tabled in assembly.

Under the proposed Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman Evil and Gory Practices and Blackmagic Bill, 2013, promoters of various such practices exploiting people would be brought to book.

The bill also proposes the setting up of Karnataka Anti- Superstition Authority at the state-level and vigilance committees on superstitious practices at district levels for prevention and control of such practices and protection of those exposed to their ill-effects.

Frankly speaking the scheme of R.50,000 shaadi bhagya is nothing to do with today's cost of marriages in any community. It is a way to loot tax payers money openly and fill the congressmen's pockets. No girl/boy is going to get benefit out of this scheme. Just ensuring vote bank & fund collection for the next election as per high command's instructions. LOOT as much as you can until you remain in power.

Instead of dividing society based on cast & religion ,make a detailed study or survey of Karnataka basics of income like super rich, rich, middle class, poor. then give subside reservation to the lower income families.

Abolish SC ST or Minority reservation and subsidies. In SC ST and minorities also Rich and super rich people are there still they are getting Govt facilities.

In upper cast also poor income families are there. they have only cast name but no incomes and jobs.

Govindaaaaaaaaaa…… So, we need another Rs 1,000 to 2,000 Crores even if you take 2,00,000 “APL Brides” getting married in a year all over Karnataka. “Sadaa Sumangali Bhava” will be the new slogan in CONgiss Lok Sabha Manifesto in KarNatak. Best way to live in Karnataka is that we should try for “APL” Card and one would say the official in charge of “APL” that, Sir, pls issue me urgently, else Traffic Police will put fine for no-parking of my Scorpio Car……

The name " Shaadi Bhagya" itself states the crooked intentions of the government with vote bank politics. We are in Karnataka & not in UP, why Shaadi Bhagya?, why not Vivaha or Madhuve Bhagya? Where are those so called kannada intellectuals? Everyone including government is telling to use Kannada everywhere. But Govt itself is not Interested. Where is Jai karnatataka? Kannada Rakshana vedike? Kannada poets, writers?. Third grade government.

When Siddramaiah became CM, I had great expectations about him as believed he will good govern. My belief went wrong and we are seeing him taking important decisions without consultations even among his party's colleagues. I had tp retract on many his decisions being opposed by the people. Now I have doubts whether he will remain in his seat even till 2014 elections.
Medication in Shaadi Bhagya scheme and a shelving anti superstition bill proposed in next assy seccsion are some examples of admn failures.
The following are of his decisions taken in haste without proper thinking/consultations and retracted after public opposition.
1.Takeover proposal by Govt Udupi SriKrsihna mutt and Gokarna Temple.
I congratulate heartily Mr.Janardhan Poojary for opposing above scheme/bill in its original form.
