Mangalore: Locals led by BJP Yuva Morcha protest against poor condition of road

Mangalore, Nov 13: Locals and auto rickshaw drivers led by BJP Yuva Morcha on Wednesday, November 13 held a protest to urging repair of the dug-up road from Thokottu to Babbukatte. Protestors blocked traffic for sometime to stress their point.

Addressing the protestors, former MLA Jayaram Shetty expressed anguish at the condition of road from Thokottu to Babbukatte which he said has deteriorated due to indifference of the state government and officials. He said that the pathetic condition of the road was detrimental to the health and lives of people.

"Though ADB had made payment to the public works department (PWD) in February itself, the work has not started even after so many months. The promise made by the officials six months ago has not been fulfilled. The health minister who participates in several programmes here has continued to ignore the condition of road," he alleged.

Satish Kumpala, member of taluk panchayat said that the road which joins several prestigious education institutions and hospitals is not attended to even after several months. "The orders by district incharge minister during the recent KDB meeting at the zilla panchayat have also been ignored. There is no value for the orders of district incharge minister and the minister of health," he said.

Mangalore area BJP president Chandrashekar Uchil, Yuvamorcha president Jeevan Kumar Thokkottu, former Zilla panchayat president Sushma Janardhan, former municipal council member Lalitha Sunder, BJP leader Ravindra Raj Ullal, Mahalaxmi, Yuvamorcha chief secretary Manoj Acharya, Yuvamorcha Zilla vice president Gopinath Bigambila, Area secretary Yashwanth Ameen, Sanjeev Shetty Amblamogaru, area leaders Dayananda Thokkottu, Harish Amblamogaru, Premnath Putran, Prashanth Gatty, Krishna Shetty, Prakash Singhoni, Purushotham Kallapu, Sachin Shetty, Suresh Alva, Parthasarathi, Anil Bigambila, Ramesh Kondana, Ananda Shetty, Narayana B, Navin Padalpadi, Dayananda of Thokkottu auto riksha owners and drivers association, Gangadhar Gatty, Rafiq Mundoli, Uday, Vinod Kerebailu, Ananda, Laxman, Dinesh T and others were present.

Ten days' deadline

Traffic was blocked for 30 minutes demanding repairs to the road. UGD official Srirangaraju and assistant engineer Shobha came to the spot. The protesters demanded that the road be repaired within ten days without any excuses. The officials said that PWD officials alone can assure it and it is not in their hands, which angered the protestors. PWD engineer Dayanand then arrived at the spot and the the protesters again put forth their demand.

The PWD engineer then promised to start the work on November 25 and complete it within the next ten days. The protesters threatened that they would block traffic for an entire day if their demand was not met.

The road from Thokkottu to Babbukatte was dug up about a year ago but it was not repaired. A protest was also held in Chembugudde about six months ago by blocking traffic. The matter was discussed in the municipal council meeting. The minister who had inspected the road in June, had ordered to start repairs within a week but the officials were postponing the work making excuses of rain.

And just some General Knowledge on Childrens Day
    - RTO is an Indian government bureau which is responsible for the registration of vehicles and the issue of Driver's Licenses in India. They do not take care of construction of roads.
So this utter nonsense of Road funds can only be approved by central government is again a weird way of running away from the facts. State government has the entire authority to release funds for construction of roads.
The earlier govt didnt do it. Will this govt do it is something we need to wait and watch. Its just been 6 months now, let us give them some time to see a change.
For people who didnt open their mouth for 7 years of BJP infighting at the state, shouldn't give free gyan on how to run the govt.

90% commentators were opposing or taunting this Morcha rather than demanding for good road. It means they don’t need better road because they can’t expect from current Central or State Governments. Not even one asked why Oscar Mamu being Transport Minister still not taken up the issue? Rather I would appeal to the next BJP Government in Central that don’t finish the NH66 and Padubidri to Karkala Road for next five years at least so that people who voted for CONGiss should suffer with these roads even though all other people will suffer too. You may call it as the height of hypocrisy or sadist but this is the only way out to teach a lesson to those Pseudo after reading their various negative comments instead of asking better road in our region

Friends don’t be biased when BJP Youth wings take out morcha is condemning pathetic road condition. Some even argued that during BJP rule roads were like that only. I feel petty for those friends those who do not know RTO comes under Central Government rule and Oscar Mamu is the current Minister for Transport too. During the rainy season they said it is not practical to do the construction activities but during summer and winter season they did nothing except doing some patch works that also whenever any National or State Leaders are arriving there. Being Minister for Transport if Oscar Mamu can’t do anything means we can’t expect anything more from any other Ministers too. Recently in one of the function Oscar Mamu said that the current Finance Ministry not releasing the funds to complete the NH construction whereby hindering the construction of road networks.

The Mangalore road condition was pathetic during the BJP rule too why were these "handsome" Yuva Morcha of BJP keeps quiet then.
Bad Roads are a big concern, and needs to be rectified soon as possible but the meditation in middle of the road for political gain should be condemned.

The condition of the roads did not worsen after the Congress government came to power. These so called BJPeans should have protested & made their MLAs or leaders to get the roads repaired while they were in power. Were they not travelling on these roads at that time? Why these morcha or roadblocks only now & disturbing social life?

Think it over.... why our local leaders are not interested to repair the road. Commuters safety is FIRST... before INDIA FIRST!!!!!

Sad part is we have 3 medical colleges, 4 engineering colleges, 1 big university, dozens of well reputed schools and colleges and a software giant Infosys. Most important is, people needing emergency care also use this road, by chance if the patient reaches safe it difficult for the specialist to reach on time, Are these authorities have HEARTLESS? The worst is the heads of all these institutions are also least bothered. God alone should save this country

Block  All damaged roads, the public will support you. It is nothing to do with politics, it is the duty of PWD and DC. The DC never interested in checking the road conditions. It is nothing to do with Mayor election, but congress corporators are busy with positioning. I appreciate the BJP yuva morcha for the protest. This is the right time to get your recognition, block every street that has bad roads.
