Bantwal, Nov 14: A protest was held by Janapara Horata Samithi of Brahmarakootlu on the national highway here on Wednesday, November 13 to demand basic amenities.

The villagers alleged neglect by officials in providing basic necessities like bus stand and service roads during the development of national highway 75.  The highway authority is eager to collect toll, but it will not be allowed to do so, unless the demands of local people are met, warned the protesters.

Though an official of the highway authority then arrived at the spot and promised construction of a bus stand, underpass and service road on either side of the highway, the protesters did not budge and demanded that the higher officials of the highway authority come to the spot of the protest.

Sriram Mishra, planning director of national highway authority arrived at 11.30 am and tried to pacify the protestors.  He promised to build an underpass to connect Brahmarakootlu-Kallige village.  He said that the technical process for construction of service road is underway and the work will be started after March and will be over by June next year.

The protesters then shouted slogans against the highway authority and said that they will not allow collection of toll until the work gets over. Sriram Mishra, who objected to it, said that the government has ordered for collection of toll.  As it is a part of government’s revenue, it was long overdue and cannot be postponed, he said.  There was heated discussion between the official and the protesters.

The police circle inspector Rajashekar Mistry and town police inspector Kabbal Raj intervened and requested the protesters to be patient with the highway officials and maintain law and order.  The protesters who objected, asked the police officials whether they will solve their problems.  It aggravated the situation.

Ultimately Sriram Mishra agreed to speak to his higher-ups and agreed to give an undertaking in writing by evening that the work would be started in March 2014 and completed in June 2014.  The protestors said that they will not pull back from the protest until the undertaking is given.

Their demands include two bus stands on either side of the highway, repairs to Ramalkatte – Talapady access road, overbridge across the highway and an access road to the highway from Brahmarakootlu.

Roopesh Jyothigudde, leaders Purusha Salian, G Ananda, Govinda Prabhu, Navin Chandra, Bharath Kumdelu, Charan Jumadigudde, Prakash Thumbe, Madhava Kumdelu, Charan Jumadigudde, Prakash Thumbe, Madhava Valavooru and others participated in the protest.

Tight security was provided by Bantwal police and rural police force.

This is called Peoples Power. Real way of democratic protest. There is no Saffron, Red or yellow flags and particular colored dress.

Hats off to the people who participated in the protests. We need to fight for our rights. The government is collecting taxes, authorities collecting tolls and other fees. Where does this money go? Major part of money goes to the pockets of officials and ministers. This need to be stopped. If people unite, then nobody can take us for granted. We need to support Arvind Kejrival's party as BJP and Congress have exploited the people and both these political parties are interested only in power. Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai..are you listening? People voted you for many terms but if you don't act now, your position will be shaky.

One more protest, come on public. Keep on protesting till you get road and bus stand at least. Don’t allow Ramanath Rai and Oscar Mamu to enter your region till they complete the NH road network. Come on Pseudo, here we don’t see any BJP guys protesting on road or bus stand issue. Being a habitual blamer, to whom you will blame now?

You are right Sachidanand Shetty. Rai, Oscar, Moily should not be allowed to participate in any programs as well. Then only they will realize what is their worth and why people have elected them. Bantwal roads are pathetic. At least the previous BJP government had initiated road repairs and some of the roads are repaired. We have central ministers from Karnataka who are useless and good for nothing. They are good only for fake promises.

Dear Justice, according to people like you may be protest is fake or cheap politics but the pathetic condition of our coastal road network is indeed genuine and we pay a high price for their cheap politics too. If you don’t believe, pls take a chance to drive from Suratkal to Kundapur and Padubidri to Karkala and I am sure you will look for Oscar Mamu with garland

    Shetre namaskara...

Why do you include the genuine protests with the fake one? I wasn't referring any particular protest in my comment which is only your imagination! Instead I am talking about fake & genuine protests only done by anyone/parties be it be A B C...

Can you please answer the people why they were silent when there was their own government was in power? Suddenly they remembered & reminding the public about the issue means what is their agenda???

I am pro protest only if its genuine....

Dear Justice, Namaskara Dhani…. I can’t recollect how you reacted when Congiss Netas including Siddu went to Bellary dancing on the road but you see the hypocrisy that Lad Brothers are included in the Cabinet by same Siddu. This is not the time to concentrate on particular Party or Personnel involved in this Morcha rather we have to press for our road construction which is standstill for last two years now. When we have the privilege by having Transport Minister from our Udupi region, can’t he finish the project on war foot? Just for your info why I press for these two roads especially that I used to drive regularly with my Scorpio SUV whenever I go on vacation

    Mr Shetty,
i dont understand how does so much negativity fill your mind when an open honest comment is posted.
How on earth can you think that the road was better when BJP was in power? We would have appreciated if BJP Yuva Morcha spoke against the road during thier own govt.rule. If they kept quiet then, why are they protesting about it now?

Dear Truth First, I think you have to change your title as “Truth Last”, now you can see various negative minded people those who are genuine supporters of Non-CONGiss Party in India. Till May’13 you were not born or may be sleeping while reading the various glorious comments by highly intellectual people like you (may be) blaming BJP for everything. Why you feel pain when the time has come to take it back graciously? Revenge is not the solution in our life we know very well. But few people in this column deserve to be strike hard with hard words though few may feel it negative but we have no choice, so this is called “Strike Hard Attitude” but nothing personal my Dear Truth. Cheers… may be we sit together in “Safe Pub or Home Stay” if any in the Mangalore region but when it comes to Politics environment turns to “Garam”

Sachidanand, Nothing against you brother, please refer to my post and i have always opined that Yes the roads are bad and it definitely needs actionizing from state and central Govt. My only say here is any Party that just lost power due to bad administration shouldn't protest for things that they are equally responsible for!!!
    Cheers and nice day!!!
