Kundapur: Family accuse man of luring girl into human trafficking

Kundapur, Nov 18: The family of a girl have alleged that a man trapped her into human trafficking net on the pretext of helping her mother and with promises of getting her into modelling.

The girl, Shilpa (name changed), aged 25, is said to have disappeared about four days ago, and the family claim that a person identified as Basheer (50) of Kudregundi, Balehannur trapped her.

Shilpa, who has studied till PUC, wished to choose modelling as her career, but poverty had come in the way. Her father died about 23 years ago, her younger brother moved out of the house after his marriage, while her mother is bedridden. Basheer who came into contact with her noticed her poverty and assured to help the girl as well her mother. He even brought his wife and two children to Shilpa's house and introduced them. This way he won the confidence of the girl and her mother. He even got Shilpa to click a photo with him with her hands around his shoulder, and began talking to her on phone for long hours everyday, said the locals.

As soon as her family members came to know what was happening, Shilpa's uncle advised her to stay away from the man. But she was not in a state to listen to anyone, say the family.

On November 14 at around noon, she left from home and did not return. When contacted on her mobile phone, she said she was with Basheer in Balehannur and asked the family not to look for her. The shocked family members approached the Kundapur police, who called the girl and were reportedly told by her that she had gone with Basheer of her own will. The police then spoke to Basheer, who too said the same. He also claimed that he himself asked the girl to go back home but she refused. The police told the family that since the girl had gone on her own free will, and that both she and Basheer were adults, there was nothing they could do. The family members claim that Basheer made Shilpa say that she wants to stay with him.

As per Shilpa's family, Basheer was previously employed in Saudi and had settled in Balehannur after retirement. Said to be well-off, Basheer used to talk to Shilpa's mother and ask her how she managed to look after her children. He offered to help her out and said he was ready to give as much money as she required. He even told her that her daughter Shilpa was clever and he would get a job for her, the family members said, adding that he was married to a Hindu girl whom he later converted. He used to come by car to Kundapur and take Shilpa for drives, they said.

Trafficking suspected

Basheer developed friendship with the girl, got her phone number and learnt everything about the family's problems in a matter of just three weeks. It is learnt that at first he had introduced himself as 'Raja' and 'Shahid', and later as he won their confidence, he revealed that his name was Basheer. His behaviour has led the family to fear that he might be part of a human trafficking network.

An unknown man having a family of his own coming forward to help a young girl and her family looks very strange! This type of helping nature we can see only in Bollywood movies! Not in real life!

The female is quite mature at 25 to take her own decisions, and per law nobody can do anything if she herself has no objections to the arrangement she has found fruitful for her!! Jai Hind!

Just imagine the age difference between them (25:50) and a few days back there was similar incident and in DW someone argued that how a girl can fall or chose a man double of her age?

This is the world. Anything could be possible.

That man used his money power to lure the girl. Should he be stoned to death or hanged?

    Noel,

You need not generalize - that girl was brought to help in the house (the man and his wife were supposed to be her guardians) whereas this girl has nobody to look after her and her bedridden mother.

Well, as long as the girl is not our daughter/sister, all is OK. Will we allow that to happen with our daughter/sister ?

Laughing at others' cost is easy !

it is not 25:50, but 23:50, diff of 27 years. Who knows what is the fact, a 23 year old girl is not definitely feeding on milk bottle. May be some official wants to gain promotion by framing fake charges...

This purely looks like trouble invited.
Why do we trust a stranger and allow him to take control of our families. I am shocked to see the picture of the girl with the stranger, how do we allow such things. She should have been advised in the initial stage, now i feel it is too late..........

The police should take up on her parent's complaint and investigate on Basheer and find out right now if the girl is there with him and learn from her and Basheer personally if she is staying with him on her own free will.
That mobile call and conversation is not enough. She may have answered under duress.
It is advisable that police take these steps now itself. Call them both to the police station and confirm their intentions.
Police can also warn Basheer if anything happens to the girl in the future, he will be held responsible.

@simple, Bangalore. The news clearly states that Her Father died about 23 years ago and the mother is bedridden, This SOB Basheer has taken advantage of her situation. Police should not wait for something to happen, they should act before it can happen.

The guy's intention was commercial. He must have seduced the girl and her mother with little financial assistances. The stupid girl fell for him. The guy would desert her once his sexual appetite is complete. Legal action should be taken against the pervert.

You meet an old guy, who tells you, he loves you, you took him seriously. You don’t understand that he means it. When you find out he is divorced with full custody of five kids, you will try to leave him. You’ve already had enough problems— Poor so what? Everyone is not born with a golden spoon in his mouth, You are a sick girl, think of your bedridden mother and go back home she needs you, and don’t regret later, she will forgive you. Your precious life deserves a certain amount of Dignity.

If this has happened about 25-30 years back we could have said 'unfortunate'. But it's happened in this READY MADE era where relationship becoming meaningless & commercial, we must say its 'invited tragedy'.

Feku Basheer should be arrested & punished hardly.

When do flies attack wounds ? When the wounds are left open. Now, get hold the brother of this girl who left his mother and sister to be vulnerable and be at the mercy of wolves like Basheer.

If men (father/sons/brothers) in a family are correct, women of the family can never be enticed into anything !

Think Madam is not a Hindi Movie buff. Here many heroines 'keep their wounds open' For eg:Raakhee In Karan Arjun(Most popular) Rekha in Khoon Bhari Maang and so on...Reason? For sweet revenge! They don't mind the flies and all that! Flies and all here ...wounds don't care... I mean even flies are afraid of such wounds... Flies also Flop sometimes ,O.K. Madam? And all because of women keeping their wounds open....must watch trend this...
