Beltangady: Youth killed in accident, angry locals protest, lathi-charged

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady

Beltangady, Nov 20: A 23-year-old youth died in a ghastly road accident after a Bolero car rammed into his bike near Nekkilu here on Wednesday November 20.

The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Gowda (23), son of Babi Gowda from Kangittilu in Koyyur.

As per the information obtained, Dinesh was riding from his house to work at Nala near Gerukatte when a Bolero car driven by Balakrishna Poojary, a resident of Baje in Koyyur, rammed into his bike. Dinesh suffered from severe injuries and died on the spot.

As soon the incident took place, several people rushed to the spot and blamed Balakrishna for the accident. However, Balakrishna escaped from their hands, it is learnt.

Sources said hundred of people gathered at the spot and damaged the Bolero car. They even protested right in front of Dinesh's body. The declared that they would not move the body until Balakrishna and higher police officers came to the spot.

When the ambulance reached the spot to shift the body to hospital, the mob pelted stones at it too. The people were angry at the Bolero driver for escaping instead of shifting Dinesh to hospital immediately, they said.

Police from Beltangady, Venur, Punjalkatte, Uppinangady and Dharmasthala arrived and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

MLA Vasanth Bangera and Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Praja Prabhutva Vedike too arrived and tried to pacify the angry mob.

Finally, after a long time, the body was shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangalore.

Among the two sons and a daughter of Babi Gowda, the elder son had accidentally drowned about two years ago. The daughter is married. Now with the death of the younger son, a pall of gloom has descended over the family. Dinesh was employed as a mason at Nala.

Balakrishna Poojary who was driving the Bolero is a supervisor in the agricultural department in Dharmasthala.

Beltangady police have registered a case.

The CBI / Police should get to the MASTERMIND of this so called " accident " !!

This looks to me ( and all ) as a pre - planned murder.

Is this the same Balakrishna Poojary whom Sowjanya's parents claimed on TV9 approached them and told them not to take part in protests ? If so, the things are crystal clear & Mr. Mahesh Shetty's struggle to get justice to our Sowjanya to be supported by all.

The death of the youth was very unfortunate and may his soul rest in peace. But on what basis the police booked Balakrishna Poojary, who was driving the Bolero, under section 302 (murder) of IPC. The driver is too young and he did not intend to hurt anybody. An accident is an accident but he should have rushed the victim, another youth, Dinesh Gowda to the nearest hospital, probably he was scared of the angry crowd gathered there hence escaped the scene.

The Road accidents are always followed by Public Protest in our Districts. But money-minded Doctors kill dozens of people due to their Wrong Diagnosis OR administering wrong Medicine there is no public protests and also police avoid booking case against the Hospital or Doctors.

@GZT Kunte, you are right, research shows maximum no. of deaths occur due to medical negligence, wrong diagnosis, violent drug reactions which are mostly covered up!! But the issue is fighting against the powerful medical lobby is no mean task unless the victim too is equally wealthy and powerful!!

Dear Charles sir, it is not the reason, but, many witnesses of Sowjanya case have been died in mysterious circumstances and this is an accident ? The third degree treatment will reveal the truth. But, who will apply that third degree treatment when money and power of influential people always there to save the killers.

Sad incident and sorrowful fate of dead man's family. Nowadays drivers of accident vehicle run away from the scene. There are two reasons for this. One and the foremost is local people gather on site of the accident and abuse the driver before even finding out who is guilty. Secondly Drivers do not have a valid driver's permit.
I wanted everyone who reads this to notice that a new trend is starting on hit and run. Many of you have noticed that Registration Plates are getting harder to read. This trend is mostly on High end -High speed vehicles. It is very easy for the driver to drive away after the accident as His Registration Plate is invisible. So please try and put pressure on Local RTO to uniform Registration
Plate. I have done this but without success.
