Mangalore: Nagesh Shetty takes charge as station manager of Air India

Media Release

Mangalore, Nov 21: Nagesh Shetty has taken over charge as station manager of Air India and Air India Express at Mangalore.

Nagesh Shetty assumed charge of his office from November 16. He took over from Melwyn D'Silva.

He was earlier posted at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Mangalore and the latest being at Kuala Lumpur(Malaysia) and Bangkok (Thailand) as manager.

Speaking to daijiworld, Nagesh Shetty said that he will plan his new responsibility looking at the demands of the local passengers, including planning on new destinations from Mangalore, and work according to market requirements.

He said his priority would be to keep the passengers happy.

He also felt that there was potential for cargo services at Mangalore airport.

Apart from holding different posts in various places, he is also a regional hockey player and had represented Indian Airlines. He also loves to travel.

Meanwhile, Melwyn D'Silva who held the post before Nagesh Shetty, has been transferred to Ahmedabad as deputy general manager of Air India.

Good to know that station manager has got so much experience. As an employee of his organisation I believe that he will help us out with present day to day problems and requirements. I hope he will help us in performing our duties and with his experience he can come up with solutions to the difficulties cabin crew come across. I wish him all the best.

Nice to hear that Mr. Nagesh would be the new Air India manager in Mangalore. During my brief interaction with him, I found him very friendly and extremely helpful to the needs of others. I could sense that he has the interest of the airline he works for at heart and that is a very good virtue, rather rare to come across in persons working for a government concern these days. Air India is our national airline and we as Indians should support it. No doubt, sometimes there are deficiencies in their service but by and large it is certainly not as bad as it is made out to be by some people in these columns. It is not that the staff members do not want to give their best. With a few exceptions, they are doing a wonderful job but they are disheartened by the way our corrupt politicians use this airline as their fathers' property. If someone can help keep these rogue politicians away, I am sure Air India will regain its pristine prestige and glory. Meanwhile here's wishing Mr. Nagesh all the best.

Thanks Air India for appointing a Manglorean, Mr. Nagesh Shetty as the Station Manager of your office in Mangalore. Congratulations and hearty welcome to him.

Hope we will see lot of changes and improvements in the services under his able leadership. To name a few, he will put an end to the 'pet's food' served to the 'human beings' onboard Air India Express!!! Also make sure to have enough water onboard. As during my visit in October, cabin crew announced that due to lack of water they are unable to serve coffee or tea after breakfast. Also requested not to use the washrooms. This is my personal experience which I want to share with the readers. Hope many of them will agree with me.

Nice to have someone from our own native here. Please introduce more flights to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore by Air India flights from Mangalore. Most of them are using AI to reach Mumbai and catch onward flights to middle east/US/UK. An evening flight would also would be more benefited. Also starting flights to Dubai, Abudhabi, Oman, Doha, Damman, Riyadh, Jeddah is also a suggestion.
