Gayle likely to miss remaining ODIs


Kochi, Nov 21 (IANS): West Indies' dashing opening batsman Chris Gayle is likely to be ruled out of the rest of the series as he suffered a hamstring injury while attempting a single during the first ODI of the three-match series against India here Thursday.

Gayle, who was run out while attempting the single, was writhing in pain after he attempted a dive in the first over off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was stretchered off the field.

The burly Jamaican was rushed to the Medical Trust Hospital, where he was detected with muscle haematoma. He has been advised 2-4 weeks of rest.

"He has to take rest for a few weeks as he has suffered a muscle haematoma," a hospital spokesperson said.

Gayle, however, was seen limping his way through and refused to talk to the media.

Gayle is likely to miss the next two ODIs against India and also remains doubtful fo the Test series in New Zealand that begins early next month.
