Puttur, Apr 12: Well-known Jaycees leader, organizer Pramod Kumar Rai (32) ended his life by consuming poison on Tuesday April 11 night.

He had left his home at Darbe on Tuesday evening after consuming poison. When he arrived at the bypass road here, he started vomitting.  Noticing this, his friend and Jaycee leader Murali Shyam with the help of Sediyapu Vishwaprasad rushed Pramod to Chetana Hospital here.

Since Pramod was critically ill, the doctors in the hospital asked them to take Pramod to Mangalore.  So he was taken to A J Hospital on an ambulance. However, he breathed his last before reaching to the hospital.

Later the doctors confirmed that Pramod Kumar Rai had died of consuming poison. But reasons for consuming poison are not yet known.

Pramod Kumar is the son of the late Chokkadi Balkrishna Rai and the nephew of noted entrepreneur, educationalist Savnoor Sitaram Rai, Sullia BJP leader Jayaprakash Rai and former Pandeshwar police inspector Ramanand Rai.

Pramod was the former zonal president of Jaycees and was engaged in many social activities.  Being an able organizer, he had organized lot of programmes in the area.  Recently he had even gone abroad for a Jaycees programme.

So his suicide has come as a shock to all who know him for long.  His family members, friends and relatives are yet to overcome this shock. 

He is survived by mother, wife and son.
