Bangalore: Rajdhani Express coach derails, barges into compound

Updated

Bangalore, Nov 24 (DHNS): The rear of the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bangalore City Rajdhani Express derailed and rammed into the compound of the Railway quarters while the loco pilot was reversing the train at the City Railway Station yard around 3 pm on Sunday. However, no one was injured.

The Rajdhani Express had arrived at the station on Sunday morning. An official of the Bangalore division of the South Western Railway said, “The Rajdhani Express was set to depart for Delhi at 7:20 pm on Sunday.”

“After the bogies were attached to the engine, the train was being moved backwards and one of the rear bogies hit the compound wall of the Railway quarters, which resulted in a couple of bogies falling off the track,” he added.

The official further said: “The engine was being brought on the fifth rail track of platform 10. The train had 18 bogies and two more were attached to it. After this, the train was taken on the reverse as they wanted to get the train to the departure platform. Fortunately, there was no harm caused to anyone as there were no passengers in the train at the time of the incident.”

The residents staying in the railway quarters were in for a shock after the train broke through the compound wall of the Railway quarters. Shashikala, a resident of the quarters, said, “Had the train moved a little faster, things would have been much different and many people would have died.”

Anil K Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, who went to the accident spot, said: “I inspected the spot and there was no fault with the tracks. Saturday night’s rain has no role in the incident. The residents have asked me to make sure that incidents like these do not recur and to build a proper protection wall.”

Railway officials, however, refused to confirm this and said they were still investigating the reason for the train going off track.

Generally one who operates an electric locomotive (having a motor) is called a motorman like in Mumbai locals. One who operates any locomotive with the diesel engine is a locomotive driver. Rajdhanis are operated with engines and not electric motors as the entire stretch of the route may not be having electrical overhead cables.

It is unfortunate that accidents like this happen. Why have we immediately started blaming game to Governments here? Does rain God know which Govt is ruling? Does it mean it did not rain when other Govt was ruling?
Where there no accidents at all in the past?
Scams surface & disappear in every Govt tenure?
ATM Attacks have happened in the past, they happen now and might continue to happen. No Govt has succeeded in stopping crimes of any kind.
Why women get molested. Because a few men look at them as " Objects" and do not respect women. Let every man think that a Woman is someone's mother, a wife, a sister, a sister in law etc. It has been a practice that women are soft targets of few men's
    lust..!!
Come on people, let us grow up beyond these petty things and
accept life practically. Let us stop pointing fingers at, instead use our good will to avoid these things if possible. Let us learn to give back something to our society rather than finding fault with everything..!!

I think the driver must have forgotten that he is moving in reverse direction and instead accelerated the train in the true Rajdhani style.

@Nagesh: I dont understand how Italians are responsible for RAIN, TRAIN, SCAM, ATM, METRO. The person responsible for all the above did not resemble Italians but us Indians. Let us agree the fact and improve the system. Ask not what the country has done for U ask what have U done for the Country? As far as I remember Italians are responsible for PIZZA!! :)

But seriously can the authorities be so careless?
    This could have killed hundreds...
I am sure this will be easily forgotten... if no the culprit should be booked and thorough root cause analysis done and methods to avoid such careless blunders should be published in media..

With increasing fares and competition from road and air, Indian Railways were looking at innovative ways to offer passengers free pick up and from passengers' door step. Extremely Lucky residents of the building to have got away from this wild experiment from the railways which has the least concern for safety of passengers as well as public
