Mangalore: Survey done, plans ready for world class railway station in city

Mangalore, Nov 26: “Kerala Industrial and Technological Consultancy Organization (KITCO) Ltd has already completed the survey and chalked out the plan for upgrading Mangalore Central into a world class railway station,” said Piyush Agarwal, DRM of Palghat Division.

He was speaking in the railway progress meeting held under the initiative of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel at Circuit House here on Monday November 25.

Regarding overbridge at Baikampady, Agarwal and Shriram Mishra of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) assured of finishing the work before the next monsoon. 

About the construction of railway underbridge at Bajal-Padil Agarwal said, “The present proposed underbridge plan is technically not safe for commuters and there is also a technical problem. There is no provision for the required length of box-pushing in the marked place,” he said.

Responding to this, Kateel asked MCC officials to discuss with railway board members on this issue in Chennai. Accordingly, Agarwal fixed a meeting in Chennai for Friday November 29 where the technical problems will be discussed.

Meanwhile, West Coast Rail Yathri Development Committee president G Hanumanth Kamath and M Ahmed Bava, member, Railway Users’ Consultancy Committee alleged that there were delays in underbridge work in Bajal.

On construction of underbridge at Jeppu Kudpady, Agrawal said that Rs 9.70 lac has been remitted by Mangalore Corporation and detailed estimated for Rs 3.612 crore has been sent to the Corporation but so for no response has been forthcoming.

Ganapathi, a college student, said, “The train which plies between Chervathur and Mangalore is delayed and stopped for several minutes on Ullal Bridge and by the time it reaches Mangalore Central station students and workers are late for work and college."

In the meeting, various problems like extension of the Mangalore-Madgaon train, maintenance of Mangalore Junction railway station, Kabakka Puttur railway station, and Neralakatte railway stop were discussed.  The decisions taken in the meeting were also brought to the notice of the representatives by the MP.

ADC Dayanand, Anil Kumar, senior division manager of Mysore Railways, Vinaykumar, assistant traffic manager of Konkan Railways, and MCC executive engineer Rajasheker were present.
