Udupi, Nov 27: The distressed family members of Ranjitha, who was allegedly stabbed to death by Yogesh on Wednesday November 27 morning, have demanded the arrest of the youth's entire family until he was arrested.

The youth's uncle Rajkumar was taken into custody later in the day.

Ranjitha (20) was allegedly stabbbed to death by Yogesh after she refused to reciprocate his feelings for her. Yogesh is said to have come to Ranjitha's friend's house in the neighbourhood while she was studying there and forced her to give him her consent. When she refused, he reportedly stabbed her and fled in a bicycle. Her friend had tried to intervene but in vain.

Ranjitha's family claimed that Yogesh had been troubling Ranjitha for the past one year and that two months ago, Ranjitha, her mother and Dalit leaders had even approached the DC and the SP with a complaint against him.

"Ranjitha had falled at the SP's feet begging for police protection from Yogesh. She could not even go to college in peace because of him.

The SP assured that he would take action and had instructed the Malpe police SI to do the needful," the family members said.

The Malpe SI had then called Yogesh, his brothers and uncle to the police station and issued a warning. "Yogesh's uncle Rajkumar had assured the police that he would take full responsibility for Yogesh's action and that he would send him away to Mangalore or Katapady. A written assurance was given that the Yogesh would not disturb the girl anymore," said the family.

However, on Tuesday November 26, Yogesh once again troubled the girl and the family informed the police, who came to the neighbourhood but could not find him anyway. The family also alleged that Yogesh's two sisters had supported him in his actions.

As Yogesh's uncle Rajkumar had taken responsibility for Yogesh's action earlier, the police have taken him into custody.

Ranjitha's family and members of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti have however refused to conduct her last rites until the entire family of Yogesh was arrested.

Speaking to daijiworld, SP Dr Boralingaiah said that the girl had come to him along with her family and he had assured of taking action, and had instructed the Malpe police accordingly.

"When the youth came with his uncle and brothers to the police station, they said that he was undergoing treatment for a psychiatric disorder in a hospital. The police had told them to take care of him and prevent him from doing any harm," the SP said.

"Yogesh would still be in Manipal. His mental condition is not stable," he said, adding that he would be arrested soon and he would convince the girl's family to conduct the last rites before that.

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Nov 27: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly stabbed a girl to death after she refused to reciprocate his love for her. The incident was reported at Kadekar under Malpe police station limits on Wednesday November 27.

Ranjitha (20), a resident of Patelthota, Kadekar was allegedly murdered by Yogesh (25), an electrician, in broad daylight on Wednesday morning.

Yogesh and Ranjitha were neighbours, and it is said that he was pursuing her from the past one year, but in vain. The girl refused to entertain his proposals.

On Wednesday morning, Yogesh is said to have cornered her and demanded her consent. When she refused, he brandished a knife and allegedly stabbed her before fleeing the spot.

The locals who saw Ranjitha in a pool of blood rushed her to Ajjarkad hospital, where she was pronounced brought dead.

Ranjitha, daughter of Shekar, was a second year BA student of Dr G Shankar Government Women's First Grade College.

Following the incident, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leaders demanded that the post-mortem be done in Manipal hospital, and accordingly, her body was shifted there.

Sources said that some six months ago, the family of the girl had complained to the police about Yogesh. The police had reportedly let him off with a warning.

Yogesh has gone absconding and a search for him is on. Unconfirmed sources said that he attempted suicide.

Malpe police have registered a case.

My deep condolences to Ranjitha’s parents, may her soul rest in peace.
Media & Police don’t show your mercy ground to this idiot who murdered an innocent & poor girl for ‘no fault of hers’. Drag him in public on a rough road “Jalli raste” and treat him nicely for his physical, mental weaknesses… Also don’t spare that two ladies his sisters who supported him for this inhuman act. What a joke, Yogesh's uncle Rajkumar was supposed to send him away to Mangalore (just 35 KM from Kadekar) or Katapady (which is hardly 7 KM) from Kadekar. Great!!

If Yogesh mental condition is not normal why he was not admitted the hospital before the incident. After the incident he was admitted to the hospital. Immediately after the incident he should have been handed over to the police. Court is making the provision for his treatment. Still there are people taking dalits in to granted. They have made lot of progress in many fields. Today they are with par with other communities. I have seen during my childhood these people are coming to our house to work in farm field, that time their condition was miserable. Now those who hurt them they have to face the consequences.

If at all the police would have given him the right treatment, the poor young girl would have been alive...
20 years of upbringing of the Girl with so much of love and affection by the family is shattered because of one sick minded human being.
Hope the police will not take eve teasing as a light offence and take stringent action wherever there is a complaint filed.

Heartfelt sympathies to the family of Ranjitha and RIP dear Ranjitha.
