Belgaum: Yeddyurappa calls off night-long dharna in Assembly

Belgaum, Nov 27 (PTI): KJP President and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who was on dharna in the Well of the Assembly for the second consecutive night last night, today called off his stir demanding extension of "Shaadi Bhagya" scheme to all communities following the suicide of a sugarcane farmer here during a stir demanding higher price for the crop.

"Shaadi Bhagya Yojana is no more an important issue for me after the death of a sugarcane farmer. From today I will fight for farmers and their survival," he told reporters after adjournment of the House.

Poor Muslim girls are given Rs 50,000 during their marriage under the scheme, which Yeddyurappa wanted to be extended to all communities.

He said he would be in the midst of the farmers and fight for them inside and outside the assembly.

As soon as he entered the House during the post-lunch session, Yeddyurappa who had visited the hospital where the farmer who consumed pesticide during a protest in front of the Assembly was brought dead, occupied his seat instead of squatting in the Well.

Earlier in the morning, Yeddyurappa said he would continue to sit on dharna until government extended Shaadi Bhagya Yojana to all communities.

During Question Hour, Housing Minister M H Ambareesh had made efforts to convince Yeddyurappa and escorted him to the seat, but the KJP leader sat for a few seconds and returned to the Well and continued his dharna.

Yeddyurappa had staged a 26-day-old dharna in Bangalore and shifted his protest to Belgaum, where the Winter Session of the legislature is on. He refused to come out even after the House was adjourned on Monday since when he was on dharna in the Well of the House continuing it even through the night.

Had the BJP made this shadi bagya scheme for poor families then today we wouldn’t have this problem. The BJP was busy with funding temples and Mutt. Now if congress started something good which can be extended to all communities then BJP has objections in the beginning itself. There are innumerous girls who are not married for short of money in every community. We have so many armies who come up to DC office and then end up in Bars in Mangalore and nobody interested in shadi Bagya for these girls.

do only certain community have poor girls , let them extend this scheme to all, "or else" to nobody. because money belongs to us ( Tax Payers). Letz be more clear not support any parties but some decision taken by politicians for publicity may do wonders . letz supportive and diplomatic.

what is communal? if you give benefit like shadibhagya only to one minority community it is not communal. but if you talk good about majority , needn't give any exclusive benefit even then it becomes communal.

hats off of to our system.

Really feel pity on Vidooshak Yeddi...

He was fighting on shadi bhagya n after a farmer committed suicide he jumped from shadi to suicide,so what is the guarantee if tomorrow another incident happens then he will quit this case n will jump to that one,so it will be free of cost entertainment to the people of Karnataka..

Without power he became like 'bala sutta bekku'...

Abe Yeddi, band kar ye sab natak...

5 congress ministers and few MLAs(both from congress and BJP) have family owned sugar factories. When they have their own govt, they won't allow to increase the sugarcane price. Poor farmers are the sufferers. As long as these businessmen are in politics, poor people have no life.

But after a farmer committed suicide, Siddu had to increase the sugarcane price. But if the decision had come before, Siddu could have saved his face. It is a big black mark on the Govt in early days. Already protest against Govt started all over the state. After all Govt is conducting session in Belgaum to address the problems of people in north Karnataka. But Govt has forgotten its agenda.

For BSY Shaadi Bhagya dharna became a prestige issue that he was not attended by Ministers while on dharna!
Again, let the farmers be given their due support price, and let no political party derive mileage out of farmers sad suicide.

There is no "Minority" group in the list of endangered species which are going to extinct. The Govt. should think and formulate the policies to remove poverty from Karnataka. There are poor in other communities too. The Govt. policies must benefit the general public, not a single community.

Good that Yediyurappa is getting time to think of poor and needy people now. During his power in the state, he was very much busy with looting the money and make the whole state to forget about the develoment.Whatever Yedy is doing is good for the state. Hopefully his looted money also gets to poor after the investigations

yediyurappa needs to bring down his stomach so he will reduce his cholesterol-diabetes-blood pressure.
So, Dharna is good-let him continue do not trouble hi -this is doctors advise.
So many years he ruled instead of doing concrete -works and using the money for constructive purpose he with Reddys started looting the state of its wealth.
iron ore-granite -precious stone s- etc.
    All looting the nation..
Instead of building schools -college s-universities- industries- roads- bridges -tunnels- economy-employment-hospitals etc he was misusing his power to help Reddys thus making money and just developing some area of Shimoga?his own birthplace ?
what about the rest of Karnataka,
now he is opened his eyes since he lost the seat and power.
no more he is done for good.
    now tim efor repentance- penance.
