Mangalore, Nov 28: Having achieved success online with Konkani portal Kitall.com, popular Konkani critic H M Pernal has taken up a new venture by launching ‘Arso’ fortnightly to discuss various social issues via the print media.

The fortnightly was launched by prominent Kannada poet-novelist Dr Na D’Souza during a formal programme held at Milagres Church Hall on Thursday November 28. Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) administrator Fr Richard Coelho and entrepreneur Rohan Monteiro were the chief guests.

H M Pernal, editor of ‘Arso’, briefing about the fortnightly, said the new attempt was made with the intention of reaching the masses living in rural areas. “The print edition will provide a platform for healthy interaction without any restriction and people can express their opinion freely. The fortnightly will concentrate more on social issues, will publish special reports, and other content which is pro-human and pro-people,” he added.

Dr Na D’Souza said that the print edition will act as a medium for social interaction and wished it would reach people and help in uplifting their life.

“The print media will be successful only if the editor acts as a voice of the people,” he said and hoped that Arso would function in a similar way.

Fr Coelho said, “We have many writers in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district, but in other places, they are less. It may be because youngsters get influenced by the West. Many writers have made attempts to preserve Konkani language and Pernal is one who has supported this cause. He is known among the people for constructive criticism.

“A writer in his content should take the opinion of the people,” said Fr Coelho, wishing Pernal good luck in his new venture.

On the occasion, Rohan Monteiro was honored for being awarded the ‘2013 Rachana Entrepreneur of the Year’ award. Titus Noronha welcomed the gathering.
