Udupi, Nov 30: Several persons including school children were hurt in an accident that occurred on the highway at Nittur here on Saturday November 30.

Eyewitnesses said that a Bharathi bus moving from Brahmavar stopped in the middle of the highway to let passengers out. Another bus moving on the same route was about to overtake the Bharathi bus when its driver applied sudden brakes on noticing the Bharathi bus stop.

At the same time, a trailer carrying new cars from Brahmavar rammed into the second bus from the rear end.

Around 20 persons including students and office-goers sustained minor injuries. They were admitted to Hi-Tech hospital.

It is said that accidents at this spot have become a common occurrence as several buses stop midway to let passengers out. The locals said that they have been demanding a bus stop here since long and had even approached the traffic authorities and other higher officials in this regard, but their pleas have gone unheard.

Udupi traffic police have registered a case.

we speak a lot in this section... giving so many comments, improvement areas, action items to be taken by officials, RTO and all. But you hardly get to see those are considered. or else it would have been long time these private busses were thrown out from the road and seen Govt busses around. These private drivers act havoc. Last week in a similar situation where 2 / 3 city busses were competing each other, stopping cross on the road making other bus not to overtake ... one of the bus was about to hit a 2 wheeler where one father was driving with his kid. The bus driver was so rash that he was about to hit that bike and my car. when both myself and that gentleman who was really lost his patience and about to hit this driver.. Instead of apologizing, that this driver was scolding we people for making him lose his trip and justifying he can drive however he went on the road. Look at that... so.. no use we comment so many things it these blogs... unless one fine day our officers, officials realise the issue ( may be of something happens to their own family or loved ones ) nothing is going to change and we are going to see many more such deaths on out NH. that's sure..

While I sympathize with the bus passengers who were injured in the accident, it would be interesting to find out the condition of the now 'not so new' cars in the carrier.

DK has become notorious for ghastly road accidents despite development on all fronts and people being well educated!! So many lives lost day in and out due to the callousness of a few dubious drivers breaking all traffic rules just to earn that extra buck!!

A bus driver ferrying bus full of innocent passengers suddenly halts the bus midway for a passenger is ridiculous, this led to the pile up and so many injuries to the old and children, and unnecessary waste of time for travelers!!

Just a week ago a 3rd year pvt. dental college student too died in a similar manner when a vehicle in front of him suddenly applied brakes and he got rammed by another one behind him!!

These drivers should be penalized heavily and counseled before they are allowed to drive again!!!

The bus drivers In Udupi & Mlore think the NH belongs to them. They do not know the traffic rules. They just stop anywhere anytime. No signals. None of the buses have brake lights. Most of the drivers can sit behind the wheel without a quarter. God save this place & the citizens.RTA sucks.
