Bunts Dubai win BV throwball tourney, Youngsters Nakre triumph in volleyball

Dubai, Nov 30: As expected, Bunts Dubai won both gents and ladies Bellevision Throwball Championship beating Konkans Dubai in closely contested matches while Youngers Nakre showed their supremacy over Ace Spikers to lift the prestigious volleyball trophy in the tourneys hosted by Bellevision at Wanderers Club Sharjah on Friday November 29.
The teams that participated were:
Ladies throwball teams: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, KCO - Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai, Mogaveers UAE, Konkans Dubai, SMMKC Sharjah, Mangalore Konkans, Dubai, United Friends, Chilly Willy and Kanarites Dubai.
Throwball gents teams: SMMKC Sharjah, KCO - Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha Bunts Dubai, Mogaveers UAE, Konkans Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, United Friends andKanarites, Dubai
Volleyball teams: Saifa Chilly Willy, St Lawrence Karwar Aand B, Ace Spikers, Youngsters Nakre, Seamen Friends, Red Boys, BKSS Dubai, Karawal Milan, Zaman Boys and Star One Tech.
The much awaited tournament began with introduction of special guests who were invited on to the dais, namely Satish Venkatramana (MD Chilly Willy) the main sponsor of the tournament, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, director St John’s Medical College Bangalore, Wilfred Menezes, MD Omnitech Security Services LLC, Joseph Mathias (MD Merit Freight Systems Co LLC), Lancy Madta (MD Integrated Freight and Logistics), Renita D’Souza, president, Bellevision and Valerian Fernandes, main sports co-coordinator of the BV Tourney.
A short prayer song in Kannada was sung by Godwin and team to invoke God’s blessings for the success of the tournament. All the distinguished guests were then felicitated with bouquets. Renita D’Souza delivered the presidential address and wished all the teams a grand success.
The chief guest of the day Fr Lawrence D’Souza spoke encouraging words to the teams. He said participating in the tournament itself was a reward. Further he said, "You have been blessed with talents and good deeds, share them with others and make this day beautiful," and wish the best of luck to the tournament. Wilfred Menezes and Ronald Sabi D’Souza also wished the best to all the teams in their messages. The national Anthems of both UAE and India were sung on the occasion and oath was taken by all players led by Reshma D’Cruz (Konkans Dubai team). The tournament was inaugurated by the distinguished guests on dais by releasing balloons in the air.
On the occasion Sarvotham Shetty (president, Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi) and founder of ladies throwball tournament was specially honoured for his outstanding service to all associations of Mangalore origin, outstanding achievements in many fields, organizing major tournaments, programmes, sports events and cultural programmes.
Sarvotham Shetty was invited to the dais along with his wife Usha Shetty by RJ Harsha (89.1 Radio 4 FM) for the felicitation. A citation was read by Manoj D’Souza highlighting his greatest achievements here in the UAE over the last 35 years, his yeoman service to the community and associations etc. He was felicitated with a traditional shawl by Fr Lawrence D’Souza, bouquet, fruit basket by Satish Venkataramana and citation by Renita D’Souza.
In response, Sarvotham Shetty appreciated the kind gesture by BV for honouring him on the occasion and his gratitude to many past and present leaders of Bellevision. He also said that he had started the throwball tournament twenty-two years ago and this was the first time he has been recognized for his achievement, and once again thanked the organizers. He said that the honour he received today was not for him but for each participant of the tournament and wished them good luck and promised his full support in the years to come.
All the league matches were then played in the morning and finals were played in the afternoon. After well contested league matches the following teams entered the semifinals:

All the exiting finals matches were a treat to watch, especially the high voltage match between Gents Bunts Dubai and Konkans Dubai wherein Dubai Bunts finally beat Dubai Konkans in two straight sets. In another exciting ladies match, once again Dubai Konkans lost to Bunts Dubai by a very narrow margin. The volleyball match between Youngsters Nakre and Ace Spikers was neck and neck, played in three sets and eventually Youngsters Nakre reigned supreme and clinched the volleyball trophy beating a prominent team.
Prize distribution ceremony was held after all the matches concluded. Leela D’Souza who was the emcee of the entire tournament took charge of the prize distribution ceremony as well and once again invited all the distinguished guests on the dais, namely, Ronald Aranha, Satish Venkatramana, Wilfred Menezes, Leo D’Souza (MD Canara Restaurant), Jenifer Mascarenhas (SMMKC). San Poojari (producer, Nirel) Deepti (actress, Nirel) and were felicitated with bouquets. Prior to the prize distribution ceremony auction of the raffle tickets was held and the remaining tickets were won in a bid by Ronald Sabi D’Souza. All the proceeds of the raffle draws will be spent on educational needs of the under-privileged back home. On the occasion Elias D’Souza founder of BV tournament and former president was honoured for his outstanding service and dedication to the tournament and also the association since its inception a decade ago. Ronald Sabi spoke highly of Elias and his dedication and meticulous planning in every tournament or any programmes that he has been conducting over the years and invited him on the dais for the felicitation ceremony. He was honoured by team members with a bouquet and a memento by former president Ronald Aranha.
Referees Melwyn D'Souza, Annett Menezes, Jesintha Rasquinha, Dancy, Satish Shetty (throwball) and Moideen and team were commended for officiated all the matches successfully. They were honoured by the organizers.
