Dr Niranjan Rai, convenor, Netravati Nadi Tiruvu Horata committee, Uppinangady was the chief guest. William Pais of Orchid Art Gallery compered the event.

Speaking after inaugurating the art expo H Shantaraj said it is laudable to see cartoons being used as medium to spread awareness on Netravati river diversion. "The government has been playing with the Western Ghats and we need to fight against it," he said.

"The diversion project is against nature, flora and fauna. Hence there is a need to revolt and we must ensure that our Western Ghats are protected," he added.

In his message, Dr Niranjan Rai said it was a good move by the associations to spread awareness through cartoons. "The people of Dakshina Kannada don’t react whether they are given something or not, hence political leaders are misusing the good nature of the people of this district. There is also a need to spread awareness in schools and colleges in this regard," he said.

Cartoons by the various well-known artists namely John Chandran, Yati Siddakatte, Jeevan, Harini, Amruth Vittla, Satish Acharya and Dinesh Kukkujadka are on display till Wednesday, December 4.

Our politicians and social leaders/workers in all areas should discuss the problems of all farmers and who do not get sufficient water during summer season. Their needs can be met in an organized way and as a result we may get some profit also. The farmer has many ideas but no resources. Let there be a suggestion box in all villages and areas, so it can be carried out. River water can be used for all. If not sufficient, then we can divert Kaveri water also for emergency needs.

Even after so much information provided by anyone on the topic people of D.K. will not rise to protest as they are sleeping, they will only wake when their a$$ is on fire. I think even then they will complain I feel the smell of something burning, but will not try to find out whats burning and try to find a solution to put off the fire.
People are busy with vote bank politics, with communal supportive groups like BD, RSS, VHP etc trying to prove we moving in path of western culture.
I seriously pity for ourselves and people of D.K.

Excellent cartoons to give sufficient awareness about the evil impact of the river diversion project. Thanks Daijiworld for giving the news with the cartoons. I hope this will reach to millions of people living in the coastal belt and also to those elsewhere. These kinds of stupid projects have to be opposed tooth and nail because they not only disturb the environment but also it is robbing from John to give to Harry. This is not a viable solution. It is a solution for the politicians to make money.
