Sullia, Dec 6 (PTI): Amid protest from various groups, the controversial ritual "Made Snana" where some devotees of all communities roll over the food remains on plantain leaves left behind by Brahmins, began at Kukke Sri Subrahmanya temple in Dakshina Kannada district today.

"The ritual will be held from today till December 8, where a large number of devotees are likely to take part in the ritual. Devotees from all communities, including Brahmins, roll over the food remains on plantain leaves, left behind by Brahmins," sources at the temple said.

Various organisations, including Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum and pontiffs from several mutts have protested against the ritual, calling for a permanent ban.

Nidumamidi Mutt pontiff Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji had observed a fast along with some other seers here yesterday, terming the ritual as "inhuman".Some organisations, including Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagrutha Vedike, a Backward Classes body, have demanded ban on 'made Snana'.

Devotees perform "Made Snana" in their belief that doing so would cure them of various ailments, especially those related to skin and help overcome miseries.

The Supreme Court in December 2012 had stayed the November 2012 order of Karnataka High Court permitting a modified version of the ritual where devotees would be allowed to roll over food offered to the deity.

Customers like this should be banned. There is a difference between belief (nambike) and blind belief (mooda nambike). Even blind belief is fine as long as it doesn't cross limits.

I may believe in something. If I do it myself privately without creating any issue to anyone, no one should comment.

This made snana is clearly a bot to our Hindu culture. A 'specific' group having good and rest of the groups rolling on the leftovers?. In what way this can be justified and do you sincerely believe that the God who created all of us the same, would have suggested this filthy practice?.

Sati was mooda nambike and it didn't die on its own. It died after so much of protests. I am glad that people are taking this up.

Please do not remain idiots by supporting horrible practices like this. Going to temples, offering prayers and doing other stuff are different. Resorting to dirty practices like this should be avoided, if we want to keep our respect in tact.

Devotees faith on Lord Subrahmanya can never be crushed by the protests of some Athee-Buddhijeevies. Devotees perform this seva since ages, & if they feel better, let them do so. People like Nidumamidi, Basavaraj Devaru, etc. themselves pose as religious leaders who do not have much followers, except for some people like them. Any objections should be left to devotees & not these non-believers. Forget MadeMadesnana, Beedi Madesnana is performed during the same period by devotees (since ages), which cover a distance of 3.5 Kms.(River Kumardhare to Shrine) which was reported in some newspapers. This clearly shows the faith of people.

If this is a forced act ,this is wrong and unethical practice.I feel that this act is self imposed without any force.Parents should not force their children to this.

If devotees are getting peace of mind by performing ‘Made Snana’ they should be allowed to do. It is not a forced ritual…… There are many other rituals which need to be banned!!!

CM Siddu offered “Nimbu Paani Mantra” on his CM Chair, DKS went on to pilgrimage to get any ministerial berth, Yeddy and Kumaraswamy went on to take oath at Dharmasthala, etc, etc are another form of “Superstition” only. As long as people don’t hurt others sentiments, not indulge in another’s life and which is not cruel to any living things or lives, let them perform the way they want. After all at least they believe something on which they perform be it superstition or blind belief. This is what GOD also said believe me completely rest he will take care.

Ban on made snana will create law and order problem. All these customs should die with it's own. There are so many unwanted customs in every religion. It could not be stopped by banning them. It is the faith of the people.
