Kasargod, Dec 11: An accident involving three vehicles occurred on national highway at Bandiyod Mallangai here late night on Tuesday December 10, resulting in the tragic death of three youngsters.

The deceased are identified as Kayyaru Merkala residents Althaf, Irshad and Raishad, all aged 19 years.

Althaf, Irshad and Raishad

The accident occurred when the three were returning by bike after attending Expo festival at Uppala Nayabazar. When they were coming to the national highway after eating lunch at a hotel in Bandiyod Mallangai, their bike collided against another bike that came from opposite direction. The three were thrown to the road due to the impact. A goods lorry plying from Mangalore to Kasargod ran over them killing them on the spot.

Mohamed Kasim (38) from Uppala, his wife Nilofer (29) and daughter who were on the other bike were injured. The accident threw traffic in disarray for more than an hour. Kumble police and Manjeshwar fire brigade personnel arrived at the spot and assisted in relief operations.

The bodies of the three were subjected to post mortem at Kasargod general hospital. The death of three youth belonging to one locality put the neighbourhood in grief. Althaf was employed in a hotel at Thiruvananthapuram, Irshad had returned to town a few days ago while Raishad also had come a few days ago and was working as a labourer. The three were close friends.

They had taken the Fashion Pro bike from Bandiyod on hire. The three were the breadwinners of their families. Their houses are a few meters from each other.

May Allah grant eternal peace to the departed souls.
I am a block education officer in the area. I know this is the wrong platform and time to bring this up but the menace of youngsters riding bikes with no respect to traffic laws is a real issue that needs to be dealt with on a war footing. The three were breadwinners for the family, my heart breaks at the thought of the loss of such young lives. Please youngsters please be careful, why do 3 people have to ride on a bike meant for 2, why do they take the law in their hands and legs and bring such grief to their mother and fathers. I believe in inculcating the principles of shariat to my students, my students would never engage in such activities
