Mangalore, Apr 24: No one can believe this. But it is the fact. One of the most respected sons of Konkani, a gifted actor/playwright, musician, master compere Michael Maxim D'Souza, better known to the entire Konkani community as Mick Max passed away peacefully in Father Muller Hospital at Kankanady here at 6.30 pm on Monday April 24.
Mick Max, christened Michael Maxim D'Souza was born in 1950 at Bijai.
In all these past years many times he had gallantly fought for the values he believed true and at times took the battle field almost alone for the cause of Konkani. But he, who fought many fights for Konkani and withstood number of odds bravely for years, had no answer when death called him. Having fought death for almost a month on the hospital bed ever since he was admitted to the hospital, ultimately he surrendered himself to God on Monday evening.
While his death is a rude shock to his family, it is a huge loss to Konkani world at large. It is for sure that no one ever can take his place. The void created by his departure will never be filled in by anyone else.
He is survived by wife Joyce and two children, a daughter and a son.
Funeral cortege will leave residence 'Mount Mary', near Kavita Residency, (on the uphill in the lane opp Syndicate Bank), Ashoknagar-Urwa Stores, Mangalore, for the Church of St Francis Xavier, Bijai, Mangalore at 2-45 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. The mortal remains will be kept in Bijai church between 3-30 pm and 4-00 pm to enable his well-wishers to pay homage.
