Mangalore, Apr 26 (4-30 am): A godown belonging to "Karnataka Spice" at Kudroli near here was partly gutted following a electric short circuit on Tuesday April 25 morning.

'Karnataka Spice' is involved in dealing in cardamom and dried pepper. The short circuit occurred after the ceiling of the block where cardamom is dried collapsed and fell on the wires.  As a result of it, fire broke out and spread to the entire premises except the nearby office.

Efforts of the Karnataka Spice staff to extinguish fire were in vain. So before the fire brigade personnel could come and extinguish the fire, the fire destroyed a large stock of cardamom and dried pepper.

Though the loss has not been officially evaluated, business sources put it around Rs 2.5 lac.
