Bangalore: Northeast people look similar, how do we trace criminals: IPS officer

Bangalore, Dec 14 (DHNS): A talk on ‘Cyber Crime’ by an IPS officer here on Friday took a bizarre turn when the speaker claimed that people from the Northeast “so closely resemble each other” that it becomes “extremely difficult” for police to investigate crimes.

Speaking at a programme on ‘Information Security Awareness’ organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Roopa D, Superintendent of Police, CID (Cyber Crime), complained that banks do not properly verify the address and antecedents of a person before allowing him/her to open an account. It made difficult for police to trace such persons in case they were involved in crimes, she said.

“Sometimes such (bank) accounts are traced to the Northeast and our inspectors, with great difficulty, go to the Northeast… Manipur and Nagaland. First of all, it’s so difficult to go there, and there everybody looks alike (sic). You can’t make out who is who. Even if you have the suspect’s photo, you won’t be able to relate to him/her.

They don’t really co-operate with police,” said Roopa.  The senior police officer did not stop at that. She also categorised Nigerians as “look-alikes” who buy these fake accounts. “These people won’t have any money in their accounts but they will sell their bank accounts with their ATM cards to some Nigerian or some other person,” she said.

Even if such Nigerian nationals who operate the “fake” accounts were traced, Roopa claimed, police would not be able to take any action.

“There is a Nigerian Colony in Delhi and one in Haryana. In Bangalore, there is one in Kammanahalli. There everybody looks alike (sic)… in Delhi even if our inspectors go, they don’t get much cooperation and it is very unfortunate. But you know they are ‘hatta katta’ (burly). Inspectors are no much. It is a sad state of affairs but it is a reality,” Roopa added.

It may be difficult for Madam SP to identify and nab criminals of Northeast and Nigeria because according to her all are lookalikes. It her weak point which she should not have made it a public issue. By disclosing her weakness she has sent a wrong signal to the criminals.

To be a CID it requires intelligence. But here this lady lacks the same.
Anyway, Since Karnataka CID(Cyber Crime) officers can recognize only Karnataka people properly, they harass only Kannadigas with trivial Cases, whereas they put 'B' Report for all other Cases pertaining to the Cases of other States. This is the proven fact which the insiders told me.

Our Children recognize Jackey Chan easily in whichever disguise he comes in his movies. In Hong-Kong, Chinese & Thailand Movies which are shown frequently on Indian TVs, our children can differentiate all the characters. Then why the grown ups think that all the people with Mangolian features look alike ?

Perhaps these people are not aware that if you ask the chineese they will say that Indians look identical to each other and difficult to identify. Ask the Africans and they too will say that some other race looks identical.......its only the capability of our brains that we have developed over the decades growing up wherein we subconciously develop capability to identify our own race more precisely. We may find it easy easy to identify western (White people / aryan race) people because Indian genes to some extent carry a mix of eastern european and middle eastern genes. Nothing wrong in what the lady says but I guess she should understand the problem behind this issue is the brain. May be you can hire north eastern people in the department to get the job done.

    Dear readers,
It seems the wrong person in the chair.

She is certainly inexperienced for this post.India is not the only place which host Nigerians,North East.If you travel Eastern countries like Vietnam,Indonesia,Philippines ..you will wonder who is who?

Mam,I believe at least you have the knowledge that every God's creation has different 'Fingerprint' and unique Retina?

A world has gone ahead and in India still lacks able people.

This is real stupidity or ignorance.
How can these persons involved in security these things.
If you ask a villager he might give these observations.
For orientals, they can clearly distinguish between a Japanese and Korean or a Chinese or Taiwanese or Vietnamese so on so forth.
An ordinary man from their nations, might say we too look like very much alike.
Clearly each one has very specific features, none alike.
It is ironic that Indian security agencies cant differentiate between persons, it is the height of ignorance.

Introduce a special cell by recruiting people with masculine power and might, provide them with special allowances. Just like the bars and pubs keep bouncers. Problem solved. Keep a track of all foreigners moving around suspiciously. On arrival at the airport provide a system of keeping into account on the individual his fingerprint, retina scan. Provide them with a unified number something like ID card until their duration of stay. For issuance of ID's charge the individual with some reasonable amount.

Any Government never taken an interest towards North Eastern People. Even though we claim North East States is fall under the purview of India..but we betray them to the most. If it's with china may be it's rich state with it's vast resources. Our Government only uses northeastern states for oil and other forest resources. Did you ever seen news appears as of northeastern states..!!
