Mangalore, Apr 27: In another inhuman attack on cattle runners by Bajrang Dal activists, a Tata Sumo vehicle carrying cattle was stopped and set on fire on Pavanje Bridge near Suratkal here in the early hours of Thursday April 27.  The Bajrang Dal activists have also assaulted 3 persons who have now been admitted to a private hospital at Suratkal.

The injured have been identified as Basheer, a resident of Krishnapur, Anwar (23) of Kulai and Asif (21), a resident of Katipalla.  Among them Basheer who has sustained serious injuries in his head is admitted in ICU.

The three were bringing cattle from Basrur near Kundapur to the city in the morning when a tempo parked right at the middle of the Pavanje Bridge forced them to stop their vehicle.  As they stopped their vehicle, a Maruti car came from behind and rammed into it.  As Tata Sumo driver Basheer tried to get down from the vehicle, more than 25 persons with wooden clubs and sabres in their hand attacked them.  While Basheer was hit on the head, Anwar and Asif were stabbed.

The Bajrang Dal activists then brought out the cattle from the vehicle and tied them to the bridge before setting Tata Sumo on fire.  The incident took place between 3 and 4 am.  However, police came to know about it only in after 6 in the morning.

There have been number of incidents wherein the Bajrang Dal activists have attacked and assaulted the cattle runners in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada.  However, for some unseen reasons, every time they have managed to go out scotfree even after taking law into their hands.
