The local Communist Party of India (Marxist) - CPIM - staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner's office on Friday in support of the demands made by the dalit community.


A dharna was staged by opposition corporators during the meeting of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) over problems faced in the city in matters of footpaths and water supply.


The Citizens' Forum for Mangalore Development (CFMD) staged a dharna in front of the Mangalore City Corporation building protesting against the illegal constructions going on in the city and haphazard real estate development.


A two-day awareness workshop on narcotics laws was inaugurated by additional director general of police K S Suresh Babu in the police quarters on Friday.


Congress party's top central functionary Vayalar Ravi landed at Mangalore airport en route to Kerala by road for campaigning in assembly elections. He was welcomed by local party leaders Ivan D'Souza and others.
