Mangalore, Apr 30: H T Sangliana, BJP MP, has asked the district administration to immediately to constitute a communal harmony promotion committee.
He said at a press conference here on Saturday that the committee should be a permanent body with representation from heads of all communities. Sangliana held meetings with religious leaders and visited the places of worship at Kottara Chowki and Buntwal, which were vanadalised a fortnight ago.
People were taking law into their hands in the district. The committee should act as a deterrent to such elements, he said.
Sangliana met Fr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of the Mangalore, who also condemned the attack.
Sangliana also met Rajgopal Rai, chief of Bajrang Dal's district unit, and requested him to coordinate with the district administration in the event of a communal problem.
Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner of the district have also been requested to be more vigilant in the matters of communal harmony Sangliana added. Sangliana said that any place in the district could be used as a prayer hall. The classical concept of building churches was no more significant. Any house or shack could serves as a prayer hall as long as the people were ready to offer their prayers there, he added.
