Indian student, grandfather die in Dubai accident

Dubai, Dec 20 (IANS): An Indian national student and his grandfather died in a road accident in Dubai while on their way to the airport.

Aliasger Yusuf Dhamangamwala, who had just received his driving licence after he turned 18 in September, was driving to the airport from his Meadows II home along with his grandfather to receive his father when the accident happened Thursday near Sports City in Dubai, the Khaleej Times reported Friday.

His father is a businessman dealing in oil field supplies and the family hails from Mumbai.

Students and teachers of Gems Modern Academy, where Aliasger studied since 2004, expressed shock after hearing the tragic news.

“He was a football player wearing the goalkeeper's jersey for the school,” one student said.

“Aliasger was a very helpful boy and was like a brother to everyone. All teachers loved him,” said a girl student and his school bus-mate.

“My daughter is quite shocked. It is very tragic and unfortunate,” the mother of another school mate of the victim said.
