Moodbidri, May 1: Foundation stone was laid for the new engineering college to be started by Rajalakshmi Education at Handel-Marakkad Cross near here on Sunday April 30.

N Vinay Hegde, president, Nitte Education Trust laid the foundation stone for the new engineering college.

The engineering college is being initiated by Rajesh Chowta who is the franchise holder for IIHT for the last 10 years. 

The college is being built on 41 acres of land at a total expense of Rs 22 crore.  The building work is expected to be completed by another year. A sophisticated auditorium with a seating capacity for 1,500 persons and a big campus will the special features of the new engineering college, said Rajalakshimi Education Trust chairman Rajesh Chowta.

The trust has already applied for affiliation from AICTE, Vishwesharaiah Technical University and the state government.  The courses such as Information and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science will be started from the next academic year.

Former minister Blasius D'Souza, Amarnath Shetty, Congress leader Sadanand Poonja and others were present on the occasion.
